Just got a txt that says the Steelers are going to sign Bruce Gradkowski to back up Big Ben.

The guy who texted me does have a close link. His GFs friend is married to one of Baltimores back up linemen who went to HS with Gradkowski.

I know, I know. He said, she said, they said but feel free to pile on if I'm wrong, but I get to say
    :p if I'm right.

6 degrees of Bruce Gradkowski anyone? Actually, you're only 5 degrees removed, so you may be right!

    I don't think he's too bad as a backup.

Local boy. Would lay his heart on the line for this team.

Actually beat us here with an awful Raiders team despite throwing a perfect pass to Ryan Mundy that, had Mundy caught it, would have sealed the win for us in a season in which we missed the playoffs by one game. So . . . there's that.

I would be happy with that, would do a good job as a backup and we don't have to spend a draft pick on one.

Personally, I'd be pretty uncomfortable with him as our backup. We're talking about guy who has a career passer rating of 65.8 and a career completion % of 52.9%. I'm sure he's a great guy, and great teammate, but I don't see the talent there. That game against us may have been the sole good game of his career. I'd prefer Campbell, Thigpen, or even (gasp) Rex Grossman.

So far your 50-50. I almost forgot he's FROM Pittsburgh. If they sign him...would they bring back Charlie again or go get a young guy in the draft or something?.

Campbell is the only one out of those 3 you mentioned that'd be worth anything I think.

I thought he was better then that but have to take that with a grain of salt, he was playing for the Raiders.

I always liked Chuck as a #3. Thought he did all that you could expect a #3 to do last year. But I thinks hes going to be 46 or 47 next year though.

Yeah the only two games I really paid attention to him was the Oakland game and didn't he play one against Pittsburgh as Cincys QB? IIRC that didn't go too well.

I quite like this move if it happens. Fits the bill for solid back up. Capable but not to the point of demanding over-paying. Perhaps we look for a late round gamble in the draft as well?

I went back and looked at his game splits on NFL.com. The Game with Oakland was quite literally his career game - at least in the regular season. His preseason performances were awesome though.

Awesome preseason games are ideally all we want to see out of our back up QBs!

Have any of you ever watched the movie office space? My dad nicknamed Charlie Batch, "Milton", the character from office space with the red stapler who was fired 2 years earlier but nobody told him and he just keeps coming to work everyday without getting paid. My dad always jokes that the steelers never re-sign Batch and that Charlie just shows up every year to camp anyway!

i thought that was Joe Burnett that dropped that sure interception, and I believe that was also about the end of his NFL career

Beat me to it. Gradkowski completed quite a few mini hail marys in that game. Horrible memories.

I've never considered Gradkowski a QB good enough worth playing, but then again he's been in Oakland, Cleveland, and Tampa Bay, right? Maybe he'd be better on a better team.

I don't like this move at all unless he is the #3 QB. Hopefully Leftwich is the #2.

Why do you want to hang on to Leftwich? It hurts to watch him. I'm expecting a catastrophic injury every time the guy takes a snap.
