Why would they take him back unless it is for something close to the veteran minimum? They invested in three veteran free agents at inside linebacker, including two starters and a backup/special teamer.

I thought the Steelers had a really good draft. Still not impressed with the off-season signings however not sure what players you are excited about? The guard from Philly should be good.

You mean 3 average to below average veteran ILB. Hopefully one of them can be a legit starter I would hope it’s the guy from Washington.

As the 3rd rotating starter in a familiar system.

Less cap hit than what he was scheduled to receive, but he’s worth much more than vet minimum. It’s a long shot but if the contract makes sense, it would be awesome, no?

Holcomb is at least average and an upgrade over what they have had there the last two seasons. Roberts is at least a thumber who can help stop the run. Muse is a special teamer and the No. 4 guy there.

Clearly, the Steelers are comfortable with Roberts in place of Jack.

It could be the move if Jack is willing to sign very cheap and they don't think Robinson can play.

If they have the cap space after releasing some seeming dead wood like Witherspoon and Green or one or two others in now some very deep positional rooms after free agency and the draft I think signing Jack incase Robinson or Muse don’t provide the quality depth for the 3rd relief duties makes great sense. Jack had the most tackles on the team last year even injured with a groin issue.

Since he’s not signed anywhere yet, maybe it will stay that way until some time of team activities and early camp when they can make a good projected evaluation. If he’s he’s healthy again, he could easy regain either a starting roll or very important relief position with the Steelers as anywhere else in the league.

He’s only 27 years old. If this defense as a whole could get a bit better at all the other positions then he might be even more productive than he’s been even at his best with us. I like Jack. I hope they could wrangle him back at an appropriate price for him and the team.

    Quality player when healthy.

I get that thinking, but he wasn't very good his final season in Jacksonville, too. On the other hand, I'm not so sure he will take backup money just yet.

Here’s exactly the case where I might again be the minority. I’d much prefer he or even a better player get the extra couple million to sign them rather than Tribisky at his current contract.

I’d take some other vet QB2 for a few million less and what I see as a more valuable rotational player at ILB. Even a more quality SS than who we signed.

I don’t value Mitch’s contribution vs. another vet QB at a cheaper price tag the way the front office does. But I could also see them buying his insurance value over my scenario and it paying off. This is where professionals I guess are far more qualified than a fan. Maybe behind the scenes the value is clearly displayed than what we see on game day.

The problem there is that the free agent pool at quarterback is nearly empty. Wentz is a turnover machine who has regressed badly and he has trouble staying healthy. Bridgewater is just too injury prone. He demonstrated why he can't be a good backup last season, very quickly getting hurt after Tagovailoa was knocked out of the lineup. Ryan has nothing left. The next-best after those guys is Mason Rudolph, who made it clear he doesn't want to be a Steeler any more. If they were going to move on from Trubisky, it needed to happen earlier in the offseason. I certainly can't see them cutting him just to make room for a guy who would have to fight just to have a job on the team.

The difference between the ILB’s we signed this year and Bush and Jack is these guys are much more aggressive. They are hitters and they are high effort players. Both Busch and Jack were probably better athletes and higher pedigree but they both lost that aggressiveness somewhere along the way. Adding some NT’s in front of these guys should also make a difference.

I would like to see them bring back free agents that played last year to team friendly deals to compete for a 53 man roster spot.

Myles Jack, Derek Watt, Benny Snell, Mason Rudolph, and Marcus Allen.

The longer these guys go unsigned the cheaper they will be to sign for training camp. If they lose their job to someone better that is already on the team that would be a good thing right?

As for Myles Jack, if the Steelers resigned him he would be a starting ILB, until someone beat him out of his job. These Free Agents the Steelers signed should be competing for their jobs this offseason, and the team needs to leave their options open if the new guys just don't get their system.

The fear of being unemployed may get someone like Mason to return, because he knows he has a spot on the 53 man roster. He tries his luck with another team he may be sitting at home for part of the season hoping someone's QB goes down.

Mitch has the same or similar important warts too, except so far the injury thing.

I completely agree it should have been earlier in the off season.

I’d take Wentz at a cheaper charge if possible. KFP had probably absorbed all he can from Mitch at this point. If Wentz can offer something new then great; even if it’s things to not do and avoid based on his roaming around the NFL.

But, again, if Kenny and Mitch have a great working relationship AND the Steelers could sign him at a cheaper extension to have something like Ben and Batch had then I think it’s absolutely the very best scenario.

But I also see how it’s like tossing millions in the trash can for Mitch. It would be an incredibly tough decision. The reality for him is that he keeps this bloated bag he has for NOW a QB2 roll in Pittsburgh and then can go and sign at a lot of other options next where he would be paid appropriately for another QB2 for the rest of his career. Like possibly his childhood favorite team, a likely SB winner, the team close to his permanent home etc…

Maybe he loves it in Western PA and feels like the south side facility is the best gig and takes the pay cut for comfortable security at a great place. Plus, I think we have a SB window that starts to crack open in 2023 and then should swing way open for at least 3 years before the cap dragon starts to rear its head.

Hakeem Butler invited to rookie camp, anyone know anything Abt him?, says he plays for the battle hawks in Xfl. And was a 4th round draft pick at one time

Was big on him coming out of college, he was a beast at that level but just has not been able to get anything going in the pros.

Worth kicking the tries on I suppose.

Didn’t know he could be invited to rookie camp.

The problem with Wentz is that the issues go beyond the injuries and turnovers. He is uncoachable and not a great locker room guy. I doubt he has anything to teach anybody and I doubt he will ever settle in as a guy who accepts being a backup. I don't want him anywhere near the Steelers, not even at the veteran minimum.

I know little about Wentz and not sure what if those same elements Mitch provides in regards to the pay check/cap the hit he gives. Is being a good teammate and locker room guy worth the extra few million. Pretty great gig. Especially if it blocks them from getting a better or different player elsewhere? Is he coachable? Will it show on the field?

If Mitch has to fill in, what is his percentage to guide them to a win? Wentz percentage or someone else? Is the cap hit with the percentage bump Mitch provides vs. many other guys? Maybe maybe not.

At this point it doesn’t make sense to whine about it anymore. Seems the front office have weighed the scales and feel good with Tribisky. Hopefully they are right and we never have to see it play out in game.

It's not so much that Trubisky adds so much in the locker room as it is Wentz being uncoachable and not well liked is too much of a negative for a guy who plays as poorly as he does.

I doubt Trubisky's deal is keeping them from adding more help. I certainly don't think they are going to cut him and pick up one of the available scrub backups at this point. If they didn't feel good about keeping him, they would have been in on the free agent market months ago.

Yeah, I’ll just have to hope that they are better at running a football team than I could. They’ve done pretty good so far.

I'd like to see Him, and a few others brought in. Don't know if it will pan out, but worth a try.

A good friend of mine went to Iowa State and was telling me that apparently he broke his hand in training camp his rookie season. That and being drafted by the Cardinals didn't help. Apparently he had attitude problems as well. Hopefully that has changed with his little stint in the XFL. Could turn out to be a good pickup or could be nothing but as you said, worth a shot.

Wow, it looks like Lewman has some serious injury problems, and may be done in the NFL.

Hell to the No! He is a mental midget, off injured. Not a great teammate thinks he is better then he really is. He needs to be coached up which he is allergic to.

    Back up is needed.
