“Unpleasant” is such a low bar for what reactions to such an event should be.

The failure at CB during the Tomlin era is astonishing. Really hoping Weidl has a good plan.

They had the cap to bring him back. Not sure what their plan is. They definitely need to bring in a vet CB now.

He didn’t even get a lot of term. I really don’t know why they couldn’t match that.

You’d think the Hilton situation would have taught them a lesson.

They still have two days to match or beat it to keep him in town. They knew someone was going to grab and now both sides know the value. Maybe this was smart for both and they just used some other team to define the margins.

One teensy weensy silver lining is that the Lions are probably no longer in the mix to go with a 1st round corner. I think they were one of the teams most likely to take one of the top CBs in the draft at #6 or in a trade down.

Right. I've seen Gonzalez going to Detroit in a bunch of mocks.

Aren't you guys panicking a bit prematurely? I mean this is the legal tampering period right? Where deals are agreed to in principle but arent official until Wednesday. Sutton could pull a Tyson Alualu and realize the grass is green enough at Acrisure. He probably won't but there is a sliver of a chance he changes his mind.

This probably just cemented Porter as their first rd pick.

So far I’m not liking his tape as a 17th overall pick.

What about Banks? He could be there. Especially as you said Detroit not likely going CB rd one now.

Bad way to lose a starter CB. JPJ has to be the pick rd 1 now...

I agree but will get a third edge player no doubt.

Me either. Don't want him so, yeah, he's a lock at 17.

If Porter, Gonzalez and Witherspoon are all gone before #17 then there is still Banks and Cam Smith.

    Major Disappointment

Drafted by the Steelers. Home Grown Talent. Above the line player. Our #1. Gone.

I still don't want a corner in the 1st. Left Tackle or Defensive Tackle.

    Stupid loss.

Sutton was the only ONE! A home grown talent and they just let him walk. Our #1. They couldn't match what the Lions offered him? Very disappointing.

Ditto not wanting him. But if he is he best get ready to start and perform right away.

I feel they can wait till 32.

I still have a lot of CB watching to do, but right now I like Cam Smith better than Porter. @S.T.D@S.T.D and I actually agree on something other than the value of “running QBs.”

All said... I think the Steelers were looking at ~7/8 mil/season (maybe 9)
I think they also figure CB is doable in this draft.
Didn't seem like any other teams were talking to Sutton.
Not a great loss but losing experience in this system hurts a little.
    Our Secondary wasn't great.

I do not know why Sutton signed with the Lions, there is where players goes to die like the Browns, good luck Sutton, you will need it

At this point, Brian Branch from the University of Alabama should be in play. Why double dip at two different positions whereas one can have one player play multiple a la Cameron Sutton?! Having a singular focus based player simply is not how Tomlin or Austin rolls on Defense.

Hell, given how much action has taken place in Day One of FA (shocking I know!!), I will not be surprised if Pittsburgh does little to nothing until either later tonight or tomorrow.

Bears are giving former Bills’ LB Tremaine Edmunds a 4-yr, $72M that includes $50M guaranteed, per source. It is the largest 4-year contract for an inside linebacker in the NFL.
