Fire away people (No pun intended) but don't be surprised if the Steelers keep all their coaches for next season. Fitch may be on the verge of being dismissed but Ben will fight tooth and nail to keep him. Did not work out for BA that way though as he was still shown the door.

 

Tomlin... keep, he's here to stay whether we like it or not.
Finctner... can, wish we could bring in another OC, but it probably won't happen

REALLY want Fichtner gone. Butler's contract is expired and he likely will not be renewed anyway. I can easily see Teryl Austin taking over as he has NFL Experience.



People are critiquing Shaun Sarrett too much due to an aging Offensive Line. Cannot really conclude nor deduce anything from that alone and nevermind what we have seen thus far. Get back to me next season when the younger Offensive Lineman get their shot.



Not sure what the animosity of Garrett Giemont could be. He has done a good job. Age is what is causing so many of these injuries here. Stephon Tuitt has been injury prone so that really is not an indictment on Garrett anyway.

 

I am not a Randy fan but am pretty sure he is not going anywhere. Although I disagree with AQL about sending him to the island of misfit toys because my very young family members love those toys and I wouldn't want him screwing them up.

Sorry still not a Tomlin hater although IMO if the Steeler didn't have Ben under center his record would look like crap.

 

MT- keep. He’s not going anywhere anyway
RF- can but we’re not going to. Ben’s boy. QB and injuries excuse. Can’t even make lemon water out of lemons.
KB- can. Shouldn’t need 8-10 first rounders to be competent and he does.
Mitchell- eh what does he really do. I think it’s a title. He can stay if he wants.
Danny Smith- I’ll drive....
TE and RB coach- stay
Sarrett- stay. There should be enough veteran know how and leadership there. I don’t blame Sarrett for their underperforming.

Sherman- can
Asst. OL coach- no idea how important he is.

Giemont- neutral. Need to seriously look into what he is bringing to the table though in lieu of all our injuries.

AQL I'm going to have to disagree on Sarrett. Yes a case could be made for an ageing Line but if you look at the young guys and their development he hasn't done enough to advance their skills. He has also shown that he can't get guys ready for emergency duty as the numerous gaffes by Finney and Chuckes in backup roles especially Finney at center stand out more than age depleting skills.

I talked about it the other day, that they seem to be acting like when Coach Z was the line coach with Faneca being the defacto coach and leader. They simply tuned the coach out.

The game on Sunday AV wrongly identified the DT as needing a dbl team in the ZBS and left the edge rusher have a free release and shot at the QB. That should never happen. Unless of course you want to lose and get your QB killed. The two probowlers Pouncey and Decastro have whiffed multiple times on blocks at the second level on smaller DB'S. That should be called out in the film room. Banner for all his fan popularity is weak at the point of attack and with his size he should be throwing guys backwards.

So Sarrett is just as culpable as the rest of the staff in dropping the ball in preparation.

Shaun really is dealing with forces he cannot control though in age. Yes, some of those gaffes you talked about were coaching. That said, that entire Offensive Line has been together when both Munchak and Sarrett were here. At some point, the players have to step up and create plays for the team; the Offensive Line in this case.



They are the most experienced unit on that side of the ball. Those five have to lead by example via performance. Coaching will only do so much when an experienced group like Pittsburgh's Offensive Line is accounted for in scenarios like these.



However, their age is showing; Big Al especially. Nevermind his leverage disadvantage, Big Al does not possess the same explosive kickslide like he used to. He can only kickslide just enough nowadays to prevent the opposing EDGE on his side bend the corner to a complete 90°. Maurkice has been injured again and Ramon is likely gone.



Age affects performance. That said, no excuse the same. This unit has underperformed this season and must be retooled for Big Ben's heir apparent.



I highly doubt the team wants to go through what it had when Ben was younger. For that matter, they cannot. Rebuild that line and let Shaun put his own staple on it. Judge his performance based on the performance from then on.

Except Ben, but it seems that was going to happen anyway. If players were consistently pulling hammy's and things of that nature, then yes, that may be the result of poor training and/or stretching.

 

I’d give all my presents back to Santa if that meant he’d take Randy Fichtner with him.
