With the 11th pick of the 3rd round, the Rams select EJ Gaines, CB, Missouri

There were many corners who rated higher on the online draft "experts" boards, but my own film watching tells me that Gaines will be a very solid pro. This is the guy who was on Mike Evans for most of his 2 catch, 8 yard day against Mizzou. I watched that game recently, and Gaines did a solid job. I considered taking one of the remaining Florida corners, but in the end I decided that if I had gone with Roberson or Watkins over Gaines, it would have been based on their height advantage, and that's just not as important to me as tape. Also, to my eyes Gaines plays stronger than those guys when he gets physical with receivers. I also really like Desir, but he played almost exclusively off-man coverage in college, and Gregg Williams likes to press. Gaines did more of a mix, and I think he's very adaptable to scheme.

The Deeee-troit Lions are on the clock.

With the 18th pick in the 3rd round, the Bears Select:

    Pierre Desir
    , CB, Lindenwood:

Although somewhat still raw, he has the size and skill needed for playing in the NFC North. That size is why I like him a bit more than the 2 Florida guys still out there. He will also have a good teacher in Charles Tillman, brought back for one year, to help acclimate Desir to life in the NFL.

Cleveland is next on the clock.

With the 27th pick in the 3rd round the Saints select:

    Dontae Johnson, CB/S, N.C. State

Signing Champ Bailey was a short term fix for the other CB spot for the saints. This big physical DB had an impressive senior bowl and combine and can come in and back up both safety spots right away, and I believe would eventually replace Bailey next year as the starter at CB.

    Panthers are on the clock.
