I like the Wee Small Hours Rule*TM.

I'd like to keep player for player or pick trading. I understand that we don't want someone to abuse the system just to have the fun of making a pick (Drew Brees for your 2nd rounder which is coming up right now). We want to keep it somewhat realistic and not ridiculous (although sometimes ridiculous things DO happen in real life -- the Raiders in particular have made their share of "beastly" trades). However, at the same time I'd say that realism is not the goal either. This is a pretend draft. Little to none of what happens in our draft will happen in real life. Maybe what, like 3% will actually be the same.

How about a 3 member oversight committee? Gpguy and two experienced volunteers. All trades are good unless two of the three members deny it. That should allow some freedom for teams to do what they want without getting completely absurd. As long as the committee isn't tyrannical and demanding that all trades come within __ points of the trade value chart (because that's not realistic either), I think it could work. We just need three people with common sense that will allow things that are remotely plausible. That way we can all enjoy ourselves without league-destroying trades.

Hmmm. Interesting. Obviously we'll have a number of years to try different things and see what works I guess...we can do one or the other this year and the other the next. Doesn't the NFL have to approve contracts, trades and other stuff? Not sure about trades but I swore I read about contract and some other things (which I dont remember).

I'll ponder things over the next few days (and hopefully get further opinions) and make a final decision soon!

I'll give Oakland a whirl this year. Every year I like to pick a different team (that, and my team last year has already been picked).

I think I like Snack's idea of a trade panel for all personell trades. We should probably have one or two alternates too if we go that route in the event that the members on the comittee might be involved in a trade.

Can we get a thread for a trading block??

Since I pick pretty early I'd like to get some conversations going before we officially start.

The Raiders are looking to move back in this draft. We currently hold the #3 pick. We are primarily looking for picks since we don't have a 2nd rounder (thanks a lot, Carson Palmer)

    From San Francisco:

Both quarterbacks, Alex Smith and Colin Kaepernick, are on the trading block.

Obviously we won't be trading both of them, but as there is conflict in the front office here in SF, we will field offers for both and take what we can get. Fate shall decide who we keep. We are primarily interested in picks, but we are open to players as well. Areas of interest include WR, DB, and DL.

Does this become no longer doable? Think you'll enjoy pick 34 anyhow.

The real life trade becomes official March 12th. Right now he's still on the 49ers. If we start before then, Smith is still mine.

LOL! Not a particularly realistic start Beastly Snack ;)

Joking aside - one QB just led them to the SB and has a $1.3 million cap number vs. the other guy who has a $9.75 cap number. If you are seriously dangling Kaepernick as trade bait, then you are proving out exactly why I suggested that player trades be banned.

Time to re-strategize. Smith is a Chief.
