I like this point. If the players seem unprepared/undisciplined/unmotivated, sure it is the head cheese's responsibility (Tomlin), but what the heck are the position coaches doing? The secondary took a huge leap forward with Carnel Lake as a coach (except for having hands of stone), but our O-line has been bad for a while, some of our receivers seem undisciplined, and our running backs don't seem to improve or play consistently. I know this is the ultimate team game, but I think we need to include ALL members of the team, and hold position coaches responsible for some of our troubles.

I also think that you have a harder time finding quality backups simply because your available pool just isn't going to be as big, at least not those coming out of college with some real experience. Teams (college and pro) swap out receivers, backs, etc. as they need them for different situations, but most teams try to stick with a single QB at the heart of their program (except, you know, the Jets, and you see how well that's worked for them). Smaller pipeline = smaller number of available, quality options at the position.

Don't forget about the Browns. It's a game of Musical QB, over there.

as said above, both backups are equally garbage. this team needs 2 new backups who aren't made out of glass

Wow, are you serious? I think they are both worthless. To each their own.

I for one have been pretty hard on Kirby Wilson since that game yesterday. Tomlin_Era can testify to that. But I think the Special Teams is ABYSMAL. Also I think we DEFINITELY need to get rid of the guys in charge of strength and conditioning coaches. I mean DUDE we are dropping like flies! Aren't there people who are held accountable for this kind of stuff? I'm pretty sure that every team pays people to be like personal trainers but look at how many of our guys stay hurt on a pretty consistent basis. I know that Troy trains by himself but I think even he has stopped doing that because he has been hurt so bad in the past few years. I just wonder if we can get some better people to help our guys stay healthy. For me the most dependable guy seems to be Timmons.

Yes, I do believe they are solid backups. I understand you might think differently, though, and that doesn't bother me.

I'm curious though...in terms of 2 backups on any team in the NFL, which ones would you choose over Lefty and Batch? I tried to think of a tandem that I'd rather have, but I couldn't come up with one. Maybe I over looked a better pair.

just because a couple of qb's didn't work out then doesn't mean they should never draft one again. 2-3 rd. guy could very well turn into a reliable backup and who knows. you know 43 i think lefty and charlie were good investments a couple of years ago. they have aged and lost alot of the edge they had. it's been almost 3 seasons now since charlie played meaningful football. lefty maybe longer. they aged and nobody paid attention to how much.

another thing is, we may not go for the same type backup under haley, then we did under BA. haley should get a chance with a younger guy and see what he is capable of building. maybe the outcome will be different.

i also am not buying the money issue with a draft pick. since they set limits , it's alot more manageable. how much are charlie and lefty costing?

i've talked before about these 2nd tier type qb draft picks. the guys that are maybe on the cusp of being 1st rounders but maybe teams just don't think they are the franchise type. 2nd maybe 3rd rounders that won on a regular basis at some decent programs, are smart, can make the throws, but managed their teams instead of putting up lofty numbers. a guy like who i wanted last year, kirk cousins. kapernick was one of those guys. ryan mallett was one of those types. t.j. yates. mcelroy. that's the guys i'd like to see here. colin klien this year. he's got some of that ben ability in him. a play extender. why not have two guys alittle more similar? right now we couldn't be farther apart from our starters type of play and our backups style of play. this sends all timing off. this is my take anyway on the matter. i know your against it , but thought i would try to clarify my thinking on it.:cool:

or you trade him away for future draft picks if he turns out okay and Ben is not ready to retire.

Landry Jones might be worth taking a look at in this years draft, he will prob go undrafted... so he will be on cheap

People, you have to have playmakers make plays. Ben and AB are our playmakers.
They have been out for three weeks and we have all seen what has happened.
Our OL even though the Steelers have invested alot of money in it is still not good.
Players who we thought were capable back ups have not panned out or carried us
(Mike Wallace, Lamaar Woodley) two very big disappointments. So what we have here
is that we will have to win 4 out of the next 5 and make the playoffs and get on a roll
and keep playing for another day.
