I think this is probably true.

But for a team that usually values continuity, I could see them not wanting to change the HC, DC, and OC all in the same offseason. And Smith is the only potential keep in the group.

I won't be surprised if they let him go. Or if they bring him back.

Rooney said the new HC will have authority to hire his staff. I hope that the new guy is smart enough and connected enough that he will hire someone with new offensive concepts beyond what the Steelers have done in the past. And if the new HC is an offensive guru then all the better.

This is not a large fraternity

These guys all know if know of each other and they all know who they think are the best

Ditto Omar and to some degree Mr Rooney

There is something up with the fact that we need guys like Wilson and Queen, but at the same time they can't handle the power run teams, and at the same time a guy like Spillane goes to the Patriots and starts there for a 14-3 team.

Maybe a new coach comes in and doesn't think these guys fits what he wants to do at all? Maybe they will need to be replaced. They definitely need to fix the run defense, because it falters a lot.

    Not in the 2022 draft.

But lets not forget they drafted an average safety in Edmonds in 2018 and could have had Lamar Jackson.

I dont see much of Tomlins staff remaining here. If it’s Shula, interesting enough he coached under Tom Arth at one point, he would probably keep him on. Faulkner is highly respected, Johnson was advocating for him to remain on the staff. Given Johnsons lack of development this season I dont know how much weight that will carry!

We can play a hundred what if’s

I was just trying to see if drafting Pickett cost us more than just a first

And don't forget Bush having his best season in Cleveland since his rookie year. And the continued and constant communication issues regardless of who has been on the field. Coaching matters. Austin was fired after a near bottom ranked defense in DET, and then fired again after a bottom ranked defense in CIN. But somehow PIT decided he was worth bringing in.
