I brought up combine numbers because you said Watson has better "physical tools". That's clearly not the case. If you want to go by intelligence, Dobbs has the edge there. History has shown that combine numbers don't guarantee success or failure, I know that. Dobbs may never be as good as Watson, who knows? But Watson may never be as good as last year's Watson either.

Watson is the real deal. As long as he's healthy, he'll be one of the best, up-and-coming QBs in the league. He was phenomenal even in defeat... see last year's Houston vs. Seattle game. Steelers got lucky when Watson injured his ACL. Watson and Texans would have annihilated the Steelers without Shazier to shadow Watson. That would have gotten ugly... quick.

I was looking at the college stats (so no "eyeball" judgement, just the numbers on the table).
Watson is the better player, but like you said, it isn't as big a difference as some people believe.

Dobbs in his last year had the same QB rating as Watson in his last year. Watson had more yards/game and TDs, but Dobbs had a lower INT rate and better yards/attempt.

Dobbs improved from his freshman to senior year.
Watson's stats declined from his freshman to junior year.
(Not a huge drop, and probably related to the increase in passing attempts, but his INT rate increased each year, and his Y/A and completion % dropped each year.)

I would say Dobb's better bring it.

And then there is that little national championship that Watson won that may tip the scales in his favor. Unlike the vast majority of "athletic" QBs, his game actually transferred to the NFL (unlike Vince Young, etc.)

Dupree's weakness is turning the corner on the edge rush. James Harrison's strength was doing so.

Dupree has a lot of good things about him, but that's not one of them.

I actually wonder sometime how he'd do lining up in the middle of the field.

True that. I don't think comparing Watson to Dobbs is an apple to an apple though. As a Gamecock Fan, I can't stand Clemson but Tennessee sucked while Clemson soared. Watson had a great team playing with him while Dobbs had a makeshift squad at best.

Yea, the Tigers are loaded everywhere with talent and TN much less so; they got _some_ talent here and there but not like Clemson does - not now any ways.

I like Dobb's mechanics, he has a good arm, good build, good speed/quickness. Hoping the Steelers can keep him around. Who knows he might end up having a better career then Rudolph.

    I wouldn't overlook him.

No, that contract was signed before being named SB MVP (in spring of 2017).
The deal also had $5M in incentives and $6M escalator, so it probably turned out to be a lot more than $11M.

(You might be thinking of the contract revision that was done this April, which included a $2 million raise for 2018, and up to $14 million more in incentives.)
