What do you do to fix this?!?...
    That was just embarassing, tonight.
How do you get your starters to stop commiting stupid penalties?
Get your young line, that likes to run block, to pass protect?
Get your starting QB, to buy into the system?
What`s the biggest problem you need to address?!?!
I dunno. I don`t have the answers, and I ain`t tryin to jump off a bridge, since, "It`s only pre-season"...
But, How does he stop the same crap from last season, from bleedin into this one?!?
I hear a lot of "it`s coach`s fault, for not havin his team prepared", here.. But, what more can he do???
He lists the mistakes in "The News".. he benches players that fumble/commit penalties...
What would you do, to right this ship, that Obviously needs some help...
I am WAAAY more pessimistic, than I was, after watchin these two perfomances put together, to start the pre-season...
I try to be optimistic... But, They relly ain`t givin me much to hang my hat on...
If you were coach T, How would you get us back on track?

I don't think Tomlin coaches, I think he cheerleads, he chest bumps, he yells. He's lost when it comes to being involved in the design and execution of an effective gameplan. That's why the Rooneys are hanging on to DL and hired Todd Haley, to compensate for Tomlin's architectural deficiencies.

I suspect he will spew some of his snappy one liners while standing there with that blank emotionless stare and then promise to unleash something...again.

But they pay him for something, right?
What is it his job to do?
Design practice drills to get the players ready for the game?
Focus on special teams,or whatever percieved weaknesses there are on the team, like he did in his first year, to no avail?
Come up with soundbites for the media, when he holds press conferences...?
Have his players ready to play, and not make fundamental mistakes during the game?
Hate to say it, `cause I like him personally, but, even aside from in game clock management, and challenges, and such...
He just doesn`t seem to be bringing a team tio the field that is prepared to play, withouyt making fundamental mistakes.
(Turnovers/penalties), and I`m talkin about th starters here...
I`m havin a hard time keepin the faith...

I think he probably does a pretty good job of teaching his players the fundamentals. I believe where he is deficient is stepping in and contributing to an offensive and defensive gameplan like many other coaches do and designing and implementing game strategy.

Well for starters, you don't wait until there is only ~2 min left in the damn game to attempt to change the offensive game tempo.

Growing pains happen with young teams. The only thing I would change would be to run a faster pace game tempo, which requires good communication and coordination. They have young guys, so take advantage of that. Rotate people. Keep defenses guessing. If someone isn't performing, replace them for some time, kinda like the NBA. Nobody should remain in the game if they are underperforming, and guys should know that so they perform at a high level, or at least try to. But this is what we have to deal with with a young team. Just have to adapt.

If I'm Tomlin I go to the O-Line and say if you don't get your crap together and protect Ben you're gonna be hating your life when I find a loophole in all this cba crap that allows you guys to be lazy. Then I go to Haley and tell him to open up the play book and use our franchise qb for more than just a guy that MIGHT get to throw it on 3rd down because if we keep this up we are gonna be the most predictable team in the NFL.

If I'm Tomlin I get on the phone tonight to Cowher and ask him how I get these guys straightened out.

I think Tomlin's biggest in game deficiency is clock mgmt. As far as preparation I really don't think he's a big Xs and Os kinda guy and I think he would tell you that. I think he believes in emotional preparation and just simply "outwilling" your opponent. I'm not knocking him for that. I'm just saying I think of him that way.

Secondly, if you F-up, you set for the next series ... no exceptions, everyone included. Ben would have sit, Pouncey would have sit, etc. and their peers would have seen them sitting.

I doubt ANYONE would bench their franchise guy in this day and age. However, didn't Bill Walsh bench Joe Montana at one time? Didn't Chuck Noll bench Terry Bradshaw at one time? That would be considered a REALLY bold move these days and the media would drive a coach crazy for that. In fairness though didn't Noll bench Brad before he sorta "became" Terry Bradshaw?

First lets relax a bit, yep this was not pretty but like I told my Dad tonight it was very obvious that they were trying to work on specific things with the first team offense in there. Same with that first series with Landry Jones where it was hand off hand off hand off. I am sure that Bell going down messed with what they wanted to see a bit but still early focus looked like etablish the run and work the screens, draws and delays, nothing downfield to much. Lots of things to point out in the film room and lots to work on. By next week they better have everything in focus and these gaffes worked out.

Yes, Yes, and I'm pretty sure No ... if memory serves me correctly, the Terry Bradshaw was benched for several games in favor of Jefferson Street Joe Gilliam.

Yeah but that was PRE Super Bowl though right? He never benched him AFTER they won a SB right?

I think your putting a little too much stock in pre-season. Having said that...I would have left the o-line in the entire night until they got it right. Even if it is pre-season the line should be better than they were. Penalties were another thing that they better get their sh** together on.

Cant do that because sky is falling in the Burg tomorrow when the Skins second string D line continues the ground and pound on Rikki Lake and CO.

Well under the new cba you can't really do that. Guys that want to punish their players need to either find a loophole in that contract or they need to just flat out bench guys. There's a lot we can blame Goodell for but the players are also pretty dang sissified these days too. I would like for Tomlin to be able to really physically punish them for not doing their jobs but I don't think he actually legally can under this agreement. I mean aren't they even limited to how many padded practices they're allowed to have?

What you have seen the past 2 games, even though pre season is the same things you have seen throughout Tomlin's watch the past 6 going on 7 years. If the problems haven't been addressed, fixed or eliminated by now what would make anyone think they will be addressed, fixed or eliminated now. Tomlin is not a problem solver, take the microphone away and Tomlin is an average coach at best.
