NT Gabriel Rubio

If he makes the 53 the Steelers might have a steal, it's early but he looks to be stout and not getting put into the ground like Benton at NT.

 

This would be great!

 

I really hope they keep this guy. I don’t see a better option at def line number 6 over him.

 

With no tackling in camp it is for the DT's ILB's and S's the shine. Rubio has stood out with his run defense and in tackling pre-season on game #1. He is a good bet to make this team.

 

Benton stinks.

Moving Benton off the nose should help, but he also needs to find more consistency. The talent is there, but he was still getting pushed around far too often last season.

Rubio seems better suited to being a true nose tackle. The position is a concern. Didn't Black struggle a little in that role when he played there last year, too?

 

i think i like the idea of black and rubio manning NT and allowing benton to move outside the position. black can also play DT as he did last year if needed.

 

It sounds like the new staff won't have Benton playing NT full time.

 

Did not get to Rubio in time during the draft cycle but I did peg him as a darkhorse member to crack the final 53 after seeing some of the footage shortly after the draft. Keep in mind this was when Logan Lee was still healthy. Now that he is not, Rubio's path is a bit clearer now.


All that remains for him is to continue to stack great performances from here on out. Should he play as he did against the Packers, his spot is secured.
