Injuries played a role in the roster being worse, Claypool and Bush regressed . Fans like you make stuff up, this coming from a guy who accused Tomlin of wanting a black running QB .

After reading up on guaranteed contracts, if my interpretation is correct, the Browns will not cut Baker. No matter what.

The fifth year option is fully guaranteed (injury, skill, cap). And it seems like there is no offset language in the option.
If the Browns cut Baker, they are not seeing any of that guaranteed salary back, even if he signs with someone else.
The only benefit to cutting Baker (versus having him game-day inactive the entire season) is to free up a single roster spot.

The Browns will want to trade Baker, so some other team takes over the guaranteed salary.
Since other teams know that the Browns won't just cut Baker, it might be in someone's interest to get a starter-level QB for $18M. If the Browns are desperate enough, they might send Baker and some amount of cash, getting nothing in return, just to get that cap hit and some of the salary off the books.

Or even do an “Osweiler” style trade. If I recall, Houston traded Osweiler and a 2nd to Cleveland for a 4th just to move Osweiler’s guaranteed salary to the Browns. The shoe could be on the other foot now, and they may need to effectively pay another team some amount of draft capital to take Baker’s salary off their hands.

I whole-heartedly agree. The only problem is to get one of those QBs, in the 2nd, is we'll have to trade up. The Seahawks, at 39 & 40 or 40 & 41 (I forget exactly) seems like a perfect potential trade partner.

I dont see the Steelers doing anything past sending flowers more than they are legally obligated too.

Just my 2 cents. Not worth more. I think any team in the Steelers shoes(losing a multi year PB QB) needs to take a QB in every draft AND pull a couple FA in until you find the diamond. Cubic Zirchonia will not win in todays NFL. Gone are the days where a Game Manager wins the SB....often. I mean every squirrel finds a nut. Name the top 5 QB's right now. We have NOBODY that can hold their dirty jockstrap. I`d kill for an Allen, Mahomes, Rodgers etc to follow up a pretty damn good act in Big Ben. I feel like we WILL draft a QB and it will be a roll of the dice. Either we slump hard for a couple years, or we double clutch it and roll!

I’m thinking this is most likely along with your logic.

Although they will not so much “send cash” but as part of a trade agreement the other team will agree to pay part of the $18MM.

There is nothing to be gained by cutting him. Even regarding a roster spot, let him play punt coverage.

From what I read, normally the "selling" team moves part of the guaranteed salary into a signing bonus, before the trade.
That is how they reduce the salary before the "buying" team picks it up.

The articles weren't clear if that was allowed for a 5th year option.
There are limitations on what kind of "bonuses" can be done in the 5th year.
So I wasn't as confident about what kind of deals are actually allowed to reduce the guaranteed salary.

I think they need to move.upnto.make that happen.

You see them trading up 10 spots or so?

I don’t think he said that none of the QBs are worth taking until day 3, but rather that he’d pass on the top half dozen guys and draft one of the next group of QBs on Day 3. I agree with him on not taking one in the 1st, but I’d jump at Howell or Corral in the 2nd. Their tape isn’t “clean” enough to be better choices than non-QBs who will be available at #20, but I think they’re well worth the risk in the 2nd.

    Hey!!
Can someone find me a video of Corral throwing a TD, or a big pass play when His target is not 7- 10 yards open.
I watched Him all year, and now going back and re-watching Him....I can't find one. LoL
I wouldn't mind Howell (or really any of these guys) if We actually used our 2nd round pick on someone else.....then traded back into the 2nd for them. Will still be some very good talent left when We draft at round 2.....unless we trade all our picks away.

Never knew SOME people here counted injuries. Kept seeing some many people boast about their prediction of the steelers making the playoffs as if major injuries to other teams didn't heavily contribute to that.

Sorry. When you bet on a team....You don't go .....oh ....I don't want that money because the other team had injuries. LoL.
All teams get injuries. What was the excuse the year before???

Of course in terms of a bet that doesn't matter because bets don't use context. But when discussing you can use context. And you have people all the time when making predictions have caveats.

And what do you mean what happened the year before?

It's hard to win in the playoffs, even if you think you have a franchise QB.
