Marino never got a ring. I'm not going to make that the only measuring stick (although it is a good one).

And Brees did it in a different era. Marino in his prime would put up 6K on defenses with these sissy rules.

For me at least, things like personal records and perfect regular seasons don't mean jack - Superbowl victories are the only measuring stick I care about. This is a team sport. I mean, what good is it to go 16-0 and then lose a playoff game and be done - nothing. That's why the lackadaisical loss in last year's Superbowl was so painful to me. I grew up in the dynasty years of the 70's and I am not used to the Steelers losing Superbowls. I don't care if we are 8-8 as long as we make it to the big one and win it. All the rest is interesting but useless trivia as far as I am concerned.

[(Brees' average passing YPG) - (2011 league average passing YPG)] > [(Marino's average passing YPG) - (1984 league average passing YPG)]

From that, it stands to reason that Marino would not be able to even get 5084, let alone 5087.

(I agree that 1984 Marino would have thrown for 5500 and 55 TDs, but the numbers don't support that stance.)

I completely agree. It is a helluva accomplishment and even though one man can't do it by himself, he has made history. Brees and the Saints look really good and I think they are going to give GB and Rodgers a run for their money for the NFC SB rep. I don't see another fluke loss like the loss to the Seahags last year.

I love Drew Brees.I remember watching the draft and being pissed off the Steelers did'nt draft him.I watched him at Purdue and wished like hell someday he would be a Steeler. I hope he makes it back to the Super Bowl.I would be rooting for the Saints if the Steelers get eliminated.

Sorry, I don't think Ben will have 5 rings before he retires.

Living here, it warms the cockles of my heart whenever someone the Chokers let go (usually for nothing in return) has a good season or breaks a record. Like I tell my nephews, (delusional Charger fans that they are,) it's a good thing your team got rid of: Drew Brees, Sproles, Tomlinson, Rodney Harrison, Seau, Michael Turner, etc. They all s uck! Then I remind them of all the past superbowl winners that the Chokers let go. I find it to be great fun! (Can you tell I HATE the Chargers?)

LOVE the Brees. His last pass (TD) gave me the win in my Fantasy Football Championship game. :rawk: :dancing:

I think he's not underrated at all and deserves all this praise. Personally, I think he's Peyton Manning status in his importance for that team. You put most other QB's on that team and they're 8-8 at best. A lousy defense and an ordinary offense made extraordinary by an extraordinary player.
