Despite to be -30 in point differenciel, despite to be in the bottom 3 in yards on offense and defense before tonight and despite being behind at the start of the fourth quarter in 7 of their 8 games....

I think it’s the turnovers honestly. We are #2 in takeaways. That’s keeping us in there

This team kinda reminds me of the 1989 team that somehow won a playoff game while never looking good doing it.

We lead the league in fans suffering cardiac arrests during the game!! Can we ever get a laugher where we sit back and row downstream vs seemingly upstream every game??

Winning pretty solely on turnover differential. If the offense doesn't make the big mistake and the defense gets a couple back for us... we are going to be in just about every game.

If we can just get Kenny to elevate his play in the first half, we should start to see wins from ahead instead of constantly needing to make plays in the 4th.

I may have to rethink my stance on old MT, and I'm being dead serious. How this team is 5-3 is beyond me. The defense is not that good. The O line stinks. The QB stinks. The wide receivers are pretty good and so is the kicker.

There really isn't that much talent on this roster in my opinion.

I hate watching dink and dunk and punt as much as the next guy, but if you let this QB and O line trybto open things up I'd bet that turnover differential swings the other way.

Kenny wasn't great but he got the job done! 5-3 my friends. A win is a win. Warren had a great game. The defense held up. We need Fitzpatrick back ASAP.

kenny in the first half? kenny needs to be consistent throughout the game and we would be much better. the plays are there, he just needs to get the ball to them in a place they have a chance to catch it.

Technically they are in the NFC and therefore are not part of any tie breaker with us

    Crazy stats…. Like seriously crazy.

At least we had a good run game last night. Hopefully that’s a sign of things to come.

Same record as Buffalo but ahead of the Bills for fifth seed in the AFC because of the better division record. 5-3 is better than 2-6 this time last year. And as Herbstreit said after the game, the offense made some strides.

The division record tiebreaker doesn't mean squat against a non division team. Steelers are ahead of the Bills on conference record. Steelers 4-2, Bills 2-3

Watt was saying he is amazing in every meeting every day and he would go through a wall for him. He just needs to make better decisions on coaches and adopt a little Bill B in the sense of putting the best guy on the field regardless of seniority, this isn't a union. Jones would have been out there earlier and wallace would have been sitting and perhaps warren gets a few more reps, Canada would have had his ass on the field to feel, hear and see at ground level what's going on, what your players are saying as they come off the field, etc.

    Is this true?
    Isn't there a "common opponent" record indirectly 49rs v browns n cincy

Defense is keeping this team in pretty much every game. Except for a drive or two late in the game the offense is absolutely putrid

    that’s how it’s happening.

The 49ers game does effect the common game tiebreaker vs Cincy, Clev, and Balt. But tiebreakers are only used vs other AFC conference teams. The only tiebreaker that would be directly between the 49ers and the Steelers is head to head and would be not applicable in the playoffs.

https://www.nfl.com/standings/tie-breaking-procedures Tiebreaker rules are different within the division and for conference wild cards. But common opponents is after division and conference records. Head to head is first either way.
