At this point, if even I pushed Ben aside I think he would fall down and go on IR.

I agree. Ben made his receivers better. Always has.

I do realize that the way his contract is structured, they're going to be on the hook for a good chunk regardless. I think you do designate him a post June cut. Ideally I'd love for him to be traded and someone else pick up his cap numbers, but I just don't see that happening. Unless Arians wants a broken down Ben for a couple of years. Winston is an UFA next year and I don't see the Bucs sticking with him.

What makes anyone think Ben would accept being traded rather than retire?

Tomlin can't part with Ben. BB is JibberJabber's security blanket.

Me too. But to the Juju, James Washintons and Diontae Johnsons of the world, Ben is faaaarr older than they'll ever be.

I am hoping we get to hold on to all 4 of our QBs for next year.
    Ben
    Mason
    Duck
    Paxton.

Would make for some interesting battles at the #1 slot and #3 slot.

For me it is still to early to tell on Mason and no one knows what Ben's arm will be like when he returns.

As a statement about Ben over his career I definitely agree. I'm not sure it was true right away though. Ben was viewed as a caretaker for the first several years of his career and his first year the team definitely simplified the offense for him.

Huh? You can't put Tomlin in the same sentence with Shula or Belichek. They are/were very competent coaches. Tomlin is a poser.

Short of health reasons or a trade to Tampa, Ben will be the starter next season.

When he was first injured and they were talking about Tommy John surgery, I thought he was done but doesn't seem to be that serious.

If Rudolph is playing very good ball by seasons end, I can see them exploring a trade. More than likely though, Bens back under center.

Realistically thinking Ben could get another SB is a stretch, let alone 2. It might happen, but just as the tide is turning for the D, the O line is showing its age, the WR's at this point scare no one, the TE's are sporadic at best, and the RB's cannot stay healthy to really show what we have. With this team in cap hell, few draft picks, and potentially losing a couple of key players in FA I think this team is 2 years away from really being a top team. Sure a lot can happen in a year, but a lot has to happen for this team to be considered SB quality

I don't think Rooney ll would part with Ben without Ben's approval. He is already a Steeler legend & Art ll seems alot like his grandfather. The Chief loved his players.

So far mason to me doen't have "it". Is he a good qb? sure. Goff, alex smith, cousins, bridgewater, dak, all pretty good qb's who can win a SB but if heavily relied on won't go too far. Ben did some amazing things in the 05 playoffs not sure Mason is that type of caliber QB.....

    yet.

Ben won't be traded unless he wants out. Now, IF Mason starts to look like the real deal, and IF he beats out Ben in training camp next yr, and IF Ben thinks he can still play at a high level (some very big IFs I'll grant you), Ben could be traded. He's not the easiest guy in the world to trade, big salary cap hit and turning 38). But hey, Unitas played for San Diego, Namath for the Rams, Montana in KC. Anything is possible.

But I suspect, Ben will be back in 2020, will return to starting, will show more decline. And the question a year from now, will be Ben's performance not matching his cap hit and whether to do something about it or not.

I think Ben would want to go to Tampa, him and Arians are very close.

Thats the only team I could see a trade with.

In that scenario, I see Ben 'retiring'. We'll see if he has anything left, or puts in the work needed.

Here we go. Higher career winning percentage*

(Notice the asterisk? Yeah, it's there because neither coach inherited the talent that Tomlin did. It's also there because if not for the Rooney Rule, he wouldn't have sniffed the position. And put down the hate-filled mouse and step away from the keyboard before you say that I'm racist. Nothing could be further from the truth. I met Tomlin in the offseason prior to his 2nd year as head coach at the UPMC Sports Complex. I was excited about him as the head coach at that time and was honored to meet him. And I appreciate the spirit of the rule, but it fails in execution. I don't mind explaining my thoughts on it, but not in this thread.)
