Mendenhall sure did impress me for his first game against a pretty good run defence

Just think how good this team would look and preform if Tomlin had a second bye week to preach his "The standard is the standard" mentality. This team is poorly preparied and coached.

as i posted 3 weeks ago the STANDARD IS THE STANDARD is a joke and everyone jumped on me... and its still a joke.. a poorly prepared team... way too many penalties.. over 100 yards in penalties kept the eagles in it ..

I will agree with being poorly coached but it did seem like the defense was prepared. In fact it looked like the defense were made practice during the bye week and the offense didn't do anything. Mendy was a big lift and Timmons finally showed up but this was another game that the defense folded in the 2nd half.

The defense shut down an explosive offense today, tons of aggregious penalties kept drives alive, the pressure was there though which was lacking

I feel bad for the people that let the negatives interfere with their enjoyment of the games and wins. People that place to much focus on the negatives will never be able to truly enjoy the Steelers again.

Especially this current team. There's a lot of negatives with this team even when we win. Gotta learn to enjoy the win for a week. At least we now have a running game. That's something Haley can build off of.

Steelers shot themselves today. If we didn't commit the penatlies and converted some points out of the early turnovers we would have blown these guys out of Heinz field. But, you win by 1 you win by 100, a win is a win.

    What irritated me:

    1) Drops and misalignment by the WR's, namely Wallace and Brown. I chalk it up to this game only and a few small plays, but those plays could've made this close game at least a 21-13 victory. Brown's drop of a sure TD negated a brilliant effort against Asomugha, and Wallace separated from Cromartie only to misread a perfect touch pass from ben that would've resulted in huge yeards and kept the drive alive.
    2) Willie Colon can stop with the penalties already. Don't think I need to detail this statement any more.
    3) Tomlin seems too nice with the refs. He's got to get in their face a little and fight for his team against some of the BS stuff that goes on out on the field. He can't let his players do the talking/fighting for him.
    4) The end of the first half. Again, poor game management by the offense (namely Ben) by trying to hurry everyone up to the line after a big gain so that he can spike the ball and "save the TO". Well, the issue with this is that it took a good 20 seconds for everyone to finally get settled, and it automatically takes away one more attempt at a TD when they are in close range. Should've called a TO there and had 3 downs to work with an 40 seconds, instead of 2 downs and 20 seconds. Result was a FG when a TD could've been scored with an extra play.
    5) Go for the TD at the end of the game! It sickened me that we were content to attempt a FG with an inconsistent kicker in incliment weather on a notoriously kicker-rough field. Luckily we made the kick (quite easily) but I would've liked to have seen them go for the TD and then kick the FG if they don't make it rather than just settle right away for the FG.
    6) Mundy. He doesn't bring much to the table. He should be replaced next year. That penalty was lame, but he makes more mistakes than he's worth. I could say the same for Foote but at least he calls th eplays and sometimes makes a play or two.

    Things I liked:

    1) Welcome back Mendy! We definitely needed him and I'm glad he was able to handle the workload that he had today. His superior talent over Redman and Dwyer is clear as day.
    2) Run blocking by OL. Aside from Colon's penalties I think the OL opened up some good holes for Mendy to plow through. They've been doing it in the first three weeks but we just haven't had a RB to take advantage of it.
    3) Hello Timmons! He harrassed these guys all game and really shined. I hope he builds off this performance and carries it through the rest of the season.
    4) Heath Miller is playing lights-out. The most complete TE in the league.
    5) Drew Butler continues to impress. It's amazing (not really) that we can find a punter on the street that can perform as good as, if not better than, a punter we wasted two draft picks on.
    6) Big Ben is playing the best ball of his career. As the season wears on I think we see him connect on more deep passes to Wallace once they fine-tune the short stuff, and once the defense's get lulled to sleep expecting the dink-and-dunk style.

So true. At least I can sort of understand the "we are going to lose attitude" it's a defense mechanism so if they do lose you aren't as dejected (doesn't work however, still just as pissed I bet) but to be all doom and gloom after a win? Shut up already and enjoy it for 5 minutes.

Good overall analysis, GB. I agree for the most part except that Coach T seemed more fired up and was more aggressive with the refs than I can recall in recent memory. I had hoped that Willie wouldn't be the penalty magnet he used to be.

Tomlin is not a good coach and it will show in time. It's already starting to show in my mind.
