This is what I and many have been saying, just because we don't have screaming lunatics on the sideline doesn't mean stuff doesn't go on behind closed doors.

This is Ben on his relationship with BA:

Roethlisberger also said people have it wrong about his relationship with Arians. Yes, he said, they were and remain friends, but they had their disagreements and arguments, just out of the public eye.

"People made such a big deal about, 'I had it too easy because we were friends,' or whatever. I think anybody in sports should understand, you and your position coach should have a good relationship. Now, if you're buddy-buddy with the head coach, that might be a little issue. You should, as a quarterback, with the guy you work with every day, you should have a relationship with him even outside of football because if we just talked every day about football, you'd go nuts and kill each other.

"To have a relationship is good because he is your buffer to the head coach and to work so closely with someone is how you develop a relationship.

"What we do behind closed doors, that's when I get yelled at. People think I've never been yelled at by B.A., never been chewed out and cussed out and had stuff thrown at me. That's happened quite a few times. I've seen a water bottle come flying."

We as fans have so little idea of what is happening at the facility. And this puts me more at ease then after reading Bens comments yesterday. I think Ben can handle it.

Can't speak for anyone else but I had more of an issue with BA's game planning and play calling than I did his personal relationship with Ben.

When Ben gets yelled at it's long after the fact ( behind closed doors) he needs to hear it right way so he doesn't get yelled at ( once) for doing the same thing 7 times, it needs to be corrected right away. Hopefully Todd has that kind of voice tone that'll get through Ben's thick skull. In a positive way, not as an insult on how stupid the INT was, but more on why it happened. " You blew my favorite player "Health" off for the 3rd time, he was wide open , instead you throw to the double coverage Wallace, which resulted into a INT! " then throw the water bottle at him lol
He would like to have one with Haley, and he has been trying to reach former Arizona quarterback Kurt Warner to talk about him.
I love it when players think like us. get the inside scoop on your new buddy

    :amen:

I don't believe grown men in any field should be brow beated to death (save maybe the military). Having an amiable relationship with your superiors isn't necessarily a bad thing. It's when that friendly relationship turns into blind eyes, or coddling that it can become a problem.

But we really can't say that happened in this case either. We really don't know what goes on behind closed doors. Mike Tomlin can morph into Samuel L. Jackson in team meetings and start quoting Ezekiel 25:17 for all we know.

My problem with BA wasn't about any buddy relationship. It was always about his situational play calling, putting too much emphasis on deep balls in the passing game, and run plays that seemed to take forever to develop.

the most successful coaches in the history of football have been composed leaders (noll, walsh, landry, belichek, bear bryant, paterno).

one of the first principles in leadership: praise in public, scold in private.

to quote sean connery in the untouchables: "here endeth the lesson."

Personally, I don't care what Ben is talking about with his relationship with BA. I don't believe BA got nasty with him in private. They played golf together, had homes in Georgia in the same neighborhood. Beb was going to take BA and his wife to the probowl with him, not out of respect but because of their friendship. Too close for me.

I felt like BA let Ben do whatever he wanted to do with no consequences. Now its time for Ben to know that if he continues to play like he has been, their will be some backlash for him. ART II has already stated that Ben needs to tweak the way he plays so that he can stay healthy. Haley has been brought on to insure that Ben does tweak his style and stay healthy by getting rid of the ball quickly, screens to the RB's out of the backfield, quick throws to Heath Miller, and generally smart play.

I don't care if Ben hates Haley, as long as we go to the Super Bowl!!

Why would he lie? To what end? All people do around here is speculate about what goes on behind closed doors, we don't know squat. So when we get a little insight into that world and it doesn't jive with what you have created in your mind you just automatically chalk it up that he is lying. Makes no sense for him to lie there and it's actually a good thing that he and BA would get into fights, it tells me that he will be more likely to be able to deal with Haley. And who cares if he was going to take him to the pro bowl, does that mean they can't get into fights? Do friends not fight? Do married couples not fight? You'll have a better chance of seeing another SB if Ben and Haley have a positive relationship then a negative one.

It's tough to regret something that none of us were responsible for.
