No WR separation

Cowboys WRs had multiple separation from Steelers DBs and made big plays. It's seem Steelers receivers never got any separation from Cowboys DBs. Is this due to scheme or lack of talent?

 

The DJ trade is still haunting this team.

Chris Collinsworth kept pointing out wide open Steelers receivers that Justin Fields was just not seeing.

The O-Line was creating good pockets for Fields to throw from during the game

Can't wait to see what Russell Wilson can do next week

 

We have great wide receiver separation. They are so far separated they are in entirely different stadiums.

 

no it is not - all I heard last year was the same whining. No separation, there is never a WR open.

Plus, we got a pretty good CB in exchange.

 

Got to watch the replays showing the backfield. Watching the game or highlights only gives you glimpses of who is open or how much separation the receivers have.

that being said, our routes cant be that bad that no one was getting separation, probably Fields didn't see them. Sometimes he didnt have much time or he would just go with the first read.

 

Who was that guy wearing #26 last night? Besides catching that one ball that was thrown at him #26 was seen multiple times standing around as the WRs ran bye and around him.

26 is asked to play ZONE - which he never did all his life. these kids are taught man to man, with some occasional zone. 26 is and was fine last night.

it is complete HOGWASH that there is no separation. Even if there was, Fields can't get them the ball.

His quick drops reads and throws were his best last night. But asking him to make multiple reads quickly and to put some touch on a ball, does not happen.

 

Just throw the ball to George Pickens!

 

Just going by what I see around the league in comparison, Steelers receivers are rarely open deep. That's surprising to me when you have a speedster like Austin, and Pickens is pretty damn fast too. Why they can't get much separation is a mystery to me

Right, a good NFL QB will pick apart that soft zone defense. They need to play a lot more man to man, with an occasional zone.

 

Unfortunately, it's nothing new. It's been this way for at least a couple of years, and not getting fixed apparently.

And didn't that's stuff prove wrong when Mason played??? You get no separation....when the Qb doesn't see it.

 

You have to see the separation before it happens, i.e. before the break. By the time there is separation you are too late.

 

Unfortunately this team is lacking in playmakers. We have literally no one outside of Pickens that can break the game open. Freiermuth is a solid TE, but not someone that will break the game open. Washington showed a flash against Indy, but is largely unused. Our other WR's suck. All of em. Harris is a plodding, offense-sucking black hole and the two guys that have potential to break a huge play at the position are sidelined with injuries. This offense needs a PLAYMAKER. Really badly. Trading for a WR would be wonderful. Signing one in the offseason would be even better. Then try again at the RB position and draft someone explosive. We can't expect to score points (no matter who the QB is) when all our WR's but one are trash and our RB sucks. Its been REALLY hard to watch.

When the receiver broke/turned the ball was there

 

Question is.....what Qb is tge best of the backups.

 

I think they were banking on the offense being able to run to open up the pass, but thus far they can’t.

 

Of course 100% and frankly that's an NFL QB, the difference between even college and high school. Like QB's that would throw to a spot when they had great chemistry with their receivers and their receivers ran precise routes so the QB trusted when they would break and the ball was already on the way.

 

It is the difference between being coached properly and no coaching at all.

 

This chart shows just how bad this is, Fields has been throwing to the worst WR group in the league and it’s not close.

I can’t say I’ve watched the all 22 tape or anything but I have heard multiple commentators say that this is what they are seeing at live games. The WR group just can’t seperate from coverage

 

It would be great if Fields could read defenses and actually scan the field for more then his 1st read. Plus staring down his target. But he can run.
