Wow. Well. I dunno I don't really expect that pickup. Crazier things have happened though.

So, I will admit that when Hightower came out I thought he looked like a legit edge rushing prospect in addition to an ILB. There were a handful of snaps at Alabama where he came of the edge, and showed nice bend and hand usage. Better IMO than his teammate Upshaw. However if that had been the case, I'm sure NE would have put him there. He's a really good interior blitzer and run stuffer. I'm not sure about his coverage skills. It will be intriguing to see how this goes.

How much is he asking? Patriots offered him 10 million per, correct? I don't want him for that or anything higher. Should have just signed Timmons if that's the case.

If this was our big spash in free agency... i'd be disappointed. At least it takes someone away from the Pats.

    Hightower is a Timmons clone.

Yeah I've never been all that impressed by him either. Didn't we actually maybe consider him when he was drafted? Seems like I remember reading some stuff saying that we might have wanted him.

He's a few years younger though and still has more tread on the tires. I'd be okay with it.

Well, I wasn't expecting to lose Timmons, so they've got to look at someone right?

He is durable and gives us much needed grit in the middle of the field now that Timmons is gone. 10 mill is s little rich though if that is true as is rather use some of that for a decent corner.

Timmons is nowhere near as good as Hightower.

There are better cbs in the draft than a decent FA.

Btw.. CB Davon House is coming from jags.

Hightowers market value: Calculated Market Value: 4 yrs, $40,748,705
Average Salary: $10,187,176. My question is, if the pats offered him 10 mill a year market value how much more does he expect to get?????

Hightower isn't all that. Timmons stats last year are almost double Hightowers. Plus, Timmons is asking for half of what he is.

Timmons is slow asf.. got beat by everyone in coverage. Yes he had more tackles.. but Im prwtty certain he'd play better than Timmons here.

Hightower has 12 pass defends and 0 ints in his whole career so if you are banking on him to be better in coverage, don't.

what? you don't really believe that do you. hell williams had near the same amount of tackles last year than hightower and he played part time. it's not even close between timmons and hightower.

Agreed. He's Timmon's in his prime.

Is that where we want investing precious cap dollars?
Does it improve our pass rush? (Hightower is a good interior blitzer, but that's not the type of game changing element we are looking for)
Does it improve our pass coverage? (Hightower, is a solid zone defender, but like Timmons, he's not a guy you want in man)

    I didn't want Timmons re-signed.
But I'd rather have Timmons at 2 years / 6 million per... than Hightower at 4-5 years and 8-10 million per.

I hope this is just a "due diligence" visit.

Yeah his stats are un impressive, zero picks in 5 years as a pro, only 4 sacks last year and only 31 solo tackles with 34 assists and only 2 pass defended, this guy is looking for a big pay day based on mediocre performance IMO, PASS:

I think from Hightower's perspective this is a "drive the Pats' price up" kind of visit. He will be back in NE IMO, but they're letting him test the market to prove to him that he over-valued himself.

I like the guy a lot, but probably not at an 8 figure annual average.

He may just want the years so he can get the signing bonus money ? He only got 4 Mil his last signing bonus would he take a 10 or 12 Mil signing bonus and 6 to 7 Mil a year? If so then why not sign him ?

would love it. I am hoping this is why Timmons was let go. more money to sign him. I would give him 10 million in a heartbeat to have him. him and shazier together would be scary

Would be so disappointed if they sign him. If they are going to spend this kind of money, would have been better used on a CB.

    Edge Rusher, CB big needs.

    ILB, not a big need.

But, you know, household name = happy fans.

Meanwhile, Davon House, not a household name = booooo, unhappy fans.
