They need to get some players on defense with ball skills.

I really hope Davis figures it out this year. The physical potential is there, and by all accounts he’s a good guy and teammate. I’m not getting my hopes up though. He just seems to be lacking in instincts and ball skills.

All the more reason either Byron Murphy or Chauncey Gardner-Johnson would be either better fits or resolve the playmaking issues quicker. Sean Davis has to put up or shut up this year. For that matter, I believe that, in this draft, we can right the wrongs of 2016 by acquiring two quality defensive backs in rounds one and two.

That being said, I expect either of those to be in play for Round One. Kevin Colbert indicating Bud playing under the fifth year option tells me that the Outside Linebacking position will not be addressed in Rounds One to Three as it stands currently. Should the likes of Brian Burns be within striking distance however, I wonder if Kevin would change his mind? :hmm:

Yeah, seems like we are the worst every year getting picks for whatever reason.

Which makes it all the more frustrating because, to me, that means are D-backs were around the ball enough, they just weren't able to capitalize on it.

We definitely need a playmaker back there. Someone who can make things happen.

They could be considering having Bud play out his option year as a way to bridge the gap until a drafted OLB is ready to start, which could include a 1st rounder. This team has never counted on a rookie being ready to take over day 1, even 1st rounders. When TJ was drafted we had Moats on the roster to be the bridge if needed.

As Chuck Noll said about someone, “if he was a good receiver, he wouldn’t be a defensive back”.

I feel Colbert is so awful at scouting and drafting CB's we are better off drafting better pass rush guys to counterbalance it. Just draft DB's who can tackle.

Indeed. I just believe that, given the current circumstances within the defensive backfield, Colbert could opt for Free Agency as opposed to draft one early. There is going to be some quality pass rushers this Free Agency.

That being said and, as you stated, as much as I would hate to foreshadow this, perhaps Coty Sensabaugh is that "bridge" towards the starting position. Be it Byron Murphy or someone else, this team really NEEDS a Cornerback in the worst way. I understand the Cornerback position is not so simple to identify as others make it out to be. However, identifying if the players themselves have the basics and fundementals in hand is not rocket science.[/QUOTE]

Well, there are more quality edge rushers than quality CBs available in free agency. I’m still liking Shaq Barrett, or maybe Preston Smith if the offers don’t get too high. I would expect Coty to be resigned unless we go out of character and grab a guy like Desir.

Some of you people realize that the the Steelers employ many scouts that scour the US
for talent. Yes Kevin Colbert and Mike Tomlin and position coaches have more input but
drafting and scouting is a whole gambit of peoples thoughts. That may find another AB
in the 6th round or strike out as they have recently.

I'm still trying to understand how so many geniuses came up with a long snapper that we could cut a couple years back.

I think people underestimate the value of a good long snapper. But, it wasn’t a good pick.

I agree it wasn't a good pick. There are probably a dozen other guys currently on the team who are capable of long snapping and have done it before in HS or college. Yes, it is important to have good and consistent long snaps, but spending draft equity on a long snapper is a very dubious decision. They could easily sign a capable LS without wasting a draft pick.

That's what they ended up doing that year anyway, after they cut the guy they drafted. I think he's still in the league too, so he snaps good enough for someone.
