So you are saying he had no say in how the offense or the team was ran when he was in Minnesota. And, now the Steelers have just hired a guy that was basically the Bathroom Attendant in Minnesota to be Offensive Coordinator?

Haha. He's the tight ends coach. He did well there the last few years. Someone not signing Darnold made that team worse. And he's out of a job now.

It’s one thing to suggest a HC that has been with the team for nearly 20 years carries a lot of weight in decision making its quite another to suggest a 4 year TE coach/passing game coordinator has any pull.

For all we know, he did want to keep Darnold but the GM wanted McCarthy. Who do you think wins that power struggle?

They're several offensive head coaches that call their own plays. So they hire an offensive coordinator to set things up as per the game plan mapped out in the offensive meetings. Getting the players on the same page.

Look at Scheelhaase. He will now probably become the offensive coordinator in LA. Learn to call plays then move on. Coaching tree. What a concept!

Posted this in another thread but since some are wondering what an OC does that doesnt call plays, they still do everything else.

Calling the plays is the fun part every OC wants to do but there is still a lot of work to do leading up to Sunday.

He was also the passing game coordinator on a team that ranked 29th in passing yards.
