Nick Vannett is officially one of us

A desperation signing that was needed due to the wonderful depth at Tight End. Don't know much about him but at this point he is a warm body. And not injured. So that's a plus. Hope he fits in and helps Rudolph.

I hope he and the Steelers came to some conclusion as to extending beyond this year. Other wise this is confusing no matter how good he is.........unless..........they have so much faith in Rudolph that they needed him to protect this years Super Bowl run

He is much closer to home as well. So theres that. Detroit is probably regretting that 25 mil right now. Mac is very expensive for the amount of games he plays. Green cost us. Grimble cost us. We better sign this kid.

 

I just watched a highlight reel and while highlight reels tend to show the best of a guys abilities, I am excited to see this guy play! He gets downfield amazingly quick and he is a baller. He fights for first downs and touchdowns and "it appears" that his blocking often disguises his release.

He has the look of a Steeler!

 

He blocked for zeke at Ohio state. The kid can play. He's as close to a McDonald as they come but without the injuries.

 

I thought it was going to be a pic of him eating a Primanti Bros sandwich.

 

The talent is there. We need some weapons ASAP, so let's hope he can produce.

 

It looks like he is getting the start tonight as McDonald is listed as doubtful.

 

I think that's one of the reasons they went and got him. Apparently him and Rudolph trained for months this off-season. Apparently the Steelers have been eyeing Vannett for a long time before Rudolph. Rudolph threw 2 td's to McDonald. Rookie QB needs a reliable TE to throw to.

Once I found all this out I was okay with the trade.

 

He had a good game. Told you guys you would like this kid. Nice blocker.

 

On the Samuel TD, Gentry had a nice block to clear the way. Glad to see the two TEs throwing their weight around. Now if only Hines come back and teach our WRs how to block

 

Let’s hope he is much more than Jesse James.

Vanneeeeeeath!! I'm seeing the similarities . Comparing him to grasshopper legs, useless blocker Jesse james is an insult to Vanneeeeeath.

 

That catch he had when Mason moved around the pocket was sweet and has me inordinately excited for one catch. He showed really good ability for a big guy to change direction and get back to the ball and then good hands. If McDonald can get healthy I could see the TEs going from an obvious weakness to a bit of a strength.

 

Vannett and McDonald will be a good TE combo....just hope McDonald can stay healthy.
