The league says they will suspend James Harrison if he doesn't give an interview regarding the PED allegations by August 25th. The suspension will begin August 26th. Three other players are also facing suspension. Here's the full text of the letter from the NFL.

As you know, the league has been investigating a nationally televised report concerning potential violations of the collectively bargained Policy on Performance-Enhancing Substances. There can be no question that the league has a good faith basis for conducting this investigation; moreover, the league and NFLPA have a shared interest in ensuring that our jointly developed policy is not being violated.

Nevertheless, since the initiation of our investigation in January the league has made at least seven attempts to arrange interviews of Messrs. Harrison, Matthews, Neal and Peppers. On each occasion, the NFLPA has communicated the players’ refusal to participate. Most recently, the NFLPA has attempted to prevent the interviews by submitting for each player a half-page statement, which you advised should be treated as a sworn statement given in a legal proceeding, and which you contend should fulfill the players’ acknowledged obligation to cooperate with the investigation. The statements, however, are wholly devoid of any detail, and we were quickly able to determine that Mr. Neal’s statement includes an assertion that is demonstrably false. Rather than eliminate the need for interviews, the players’ plainly deficient statements simply underscore the importance of obtaining their full cooperation.

You were so advised on July 29, when we again wrote to offer the players another opportunity to participate in an interview, beginning with Mr. Neal. In that letter, you were expressly notified that continued noncooperation could result in discipline up to and including a suspension. In response, you provided a revised statement and letter which acknowledged Mr. Neal’s prior steroid policy violation and that his previous “sworn statement” is in fact untrue. Most important, you advised that Mr. Neal had again refused to cooperate with our investigation by participating in an interview.

There is no dispute that players are obligated to cooperate with the league’s investigation, as you have repeatedly acknowledged. This obligation includes not only the responsibility to submit to an interview but also the duty to provide meaningful responses to the questions posed. Nor is there a dispute that a failure to cooperate or an attempt to obstruct the investigation may result in discipline, including suspension from play, for conduct detrimental under Article 46 of the CBA and the NFL Player Contract.

We cannot accept your unilateral assertion that the cursory, untested statements you have submitted satisfy the players’ obligation. Accordingly, the Commissioner has directed that Messrs. Harrison, Matthews, Neal and Peppers be given until Thursday, August 25 to provide interviews. For those players whose interviews do not take place on or before that date, or who fail meaningfully to participate in or otherwise obstruct the interview, their actions will constitute conduct detrimental and they will be suspended, separate and apart from any possible future determination that they violated the steroid policy. The suspension for each such player will begin on Friday, August 26 and will continue until he has fully participated in an interview with league investigators, after which the Commissioner will determine whether and when the suspension should be lifted.

To avoid this outcome, please promptly contact my office to make arrangements for the interviews. As previously stated, we will make every effort to accommodate the NFLPA’s availability, within the outlined time period.

Earlier today, Harrison said he considered it over. “As far as I’m concerned, it’s a done deal.” http://www.post-gazette.com/sports/...rs-PED-inquiry-done-deal/stories/201608150135

Look, JH hasn't denied not one interview...to the contrary, he has been cordial and have even welcomed you into his home commish baddell. How can the creep that started all of this...recant his claim and then the league dismiss the claim against Peyton, and last but not least....how many drug tests have JH failed? but you still conduct this witch hunt? Really?!

I guess James has to actually invite Al Jazeera into his home for the interview instead of Gooddell. Then he can get suspended and put on the no fly list at the same time.

Not to pour cold water on this spasm of B&G righteous indignation, but.....

    A) The threat of suspension isn't reserved for only Mr Harrison, but applies to Messrs Matthews, Neal and Pepper
    B) as for Mr Manning, he's retired, what discipline does the NFL hold over him? If JH was retired, they'd be off his back too.

Pissing match between the league office and the NFLPA. Like Mongo in Blazing Saddles, JH (and the others) are "only pawns in game of life". It has nothing to do with merits of the allegation, and everything to do about establishing what the league can or can't do under the CBA. No more,no less.

I'm Afan of the game, but not AFan of labor disputes. Maybe the lawyers on both sides will shoot each other, we can only hope.

I'm wearing my fire proof suit, the I-hate-Godell-cause-Godell-hates-the-Stillers crowd is free to flame away.

    I
I agree, but like Elvis said... Just do the interview. They're setting him and the others up to play with fire by making an honest point. I get his take I do and I appreciate it. However if they're gonna push the issue with golden boy, James ain't got a prayer. It's inconvenient for sure but just get it done already and laugh at them afterwards

I think its safe to say that Goodell doesn't have warm fuzzy feelings towards JH. He's not going to make this easy on him, he should just do the interview. They aren't going to go to his house.

Harrison get your ass to NY and talk to Goodell, the Steelers can't afford to lose anymore players to suspension. Stop being so damn hardheaded, if you have nothing to hide then talk.

In the spirit of sportsmanship why not have James and goodell have a cagematch to settle the issue once and for all?

Playing devils advocate here, but is James hiding something? What about the other players? One thing the report said that did bear truth was Peyton was having stuff mailed to his home, and it was found his wife was getting the shipments I believe? So, the report did have that correct. I don't think James is hiding anything personally, but we all knew this " put up or shut up" was gonna happen so why not just get it over months ago? it's just a nagging situation

I think when it comes to Harrison he simply hates Goodell. He isn't going to just bend over and take it so to speak. Now if he doesn't do the interview then either he does have something to hide or he is completely selfish.

OMG, can we just play the game, and avoid all this court/lawyer, related Bull****???:butcher::noose::rant:...

I am so far beyond pissed off at all this, that I am at a loss for words!

I`m far from the most eloquent SOB, at the best of times, but I am flat out spitting nails right now!!!

First off, James gave every sample they asked him to...

They got pissed when he recorded the process...

Then, I read about the Colts punter who just "happens" to get "randomly" drug tested, the day after he kicks an NFL record 67 yard punt...

Not to mention all the deflategate bull****, and the league fighting in court to protect it`s reputation, on the concussion issue...

I am seriously starting to consider boycotting the NFL...
But that makes me feel like I am cutting off my nose, to spite my face...

What other recourse do we have?!?

Stop watching the team I love, because the league it plays in, has become ridiculosly corrupt???

Man, how can Herr Goodell, be so stupid as to jeopardize "his" billion dollar industry??

He thinks its funny, when the fans boo him on draft night???

I guesss if it works for Vince McMahon and the WWe, it will work for him.
The part that pisses me off the most, is, he`s probably right...
I won`t quit watching, and neither will anyone else...

But my blood is boiling right now...

We were the only team, with the common sense not to vote for the CBA giving him total control, and you don`t think he remembers that, and is targeting us???
Paranoia is valid, when someone IS out to get you!!!!!!

Yeah, I know other players were named in the letter, but, either that is covering his ass, or he is overstepping his bounds...

    Either way, it`s BULLL****!!!!!:goodellsucks::goodellsucks::goodellsucks::goodellsucks::goodellsucks::goodellsucks:

I am beyond articulating how angry I am, with clarity, so, I`m out!!!!!

My goodness guys.. as stupid as this sounds... you really cannot blame Goodell on this one..

    *Reaction from TSF members..

    Now.. before any of you rip me to shreds... hear me out. This entire ordeal was set in motion in the CBA of 2011. All teams not named the Steelers willingly handed over their right to deny for increased financial incentives. As such.. any event that succeeded the Article 46 has been preordained and resistance was futile from the beginning. From the increased punishment on substance abuse to the legendary "Deflategate", the outcome would have yielded the same results;

NFL (or more specifically Roger Goodell) = God

    Everyone Else = Servants

Now, does this make Goodell right in every event succeeding Article 46? No. Ray Rice can easily come to mind. However, smashing Goodell's face in is not going to solve anything. In fact.. it does nothing. If one wants to smash anything, blame the other 31 teams that signed away their right to fight. Those ones not named the Steelers are the reason incidents like this continue to happen and eventually rip the fabric of whatever bond the NFL has left as the NFL and NFLA are now more than likely to go to war with each other about something that was surrendered by them; culminating into yet another large scale strike.

Now... regarding the Peyton Manning case.. Peyton was excused for cooperation with the investigation. Manning himself pointed out that players should be interviewed first before taking action. To say Peyton was left off the hook due to his position is the equivalent of stating the NFL conducted an all out witch hunt against James Harrison in terms of the fines he received following the helmet to helmet changes the league introduced; both of which are ridiculous.

Ultiamtley... this is a classic battle of those in power vs. those fighting said power. Until those fighting has a newfound solution to combat those that are, cases like the Al-Jazeera report will continue to unravel and deteriorate whatever relations the NFLPA and NFL have left.. if any.

Either way.. James Harrison is the biggest loser out of all of this due to those who could fight elected not to. He now has to submit to authority or be banished. As much as many of you hate this.. this is the reality of the situation.

So again members of TSF.. you sure can hate Goodell with the blast furnace turned to maximum power... but you cannot blame him for something that others gave him the means of doing.

Have you guys and gals ever heard of " the principle of the thing"? JH, gave back the participation trophy's for his sons because they didn't earn them. Show reasonable cause for the interview? Just because baddell was given power by the other 31 teams is not a crime. Its how he use the power given to him or how fair and responsible he conducts himself with the power given him. I do agree, that the other 31 teams created a monster that they never imagined. He's been out of control, but what can they do about it now?

This absolutely hits the nail on the head.

Whether he does the interview or not has nothing to do with his principles, his relationship with Goodell, his status as a Steeler, etc. etc. For those saying he should just do the interview - it's not really his choice; it's the NFLPA leading on this one.

This is an issue between the NFLPA and the NFL, pure and simple.

So the NFL finds the the report with Peyton Manning to be false and have no grounds. But yet still wants to interview other players in the same report. Sounds like total BS to me. Hope Harrison sticks to his guns, but it might be for grounds of a 4 game suspension.

Marshawn Lynch comes to mind over interviews, he was fined 100K for refusing interviews, eventually gave one after the fine which he just mumbled through it giving non answers:

    New York Post:
The NFL has already fined Lynch $100,000 for not cooperating with the media, and further fines could be forthcoming because Lynch now speaks with reporters but only gives monotone, one-word answers or, as he did Sunday, repeatedly replies with little more than “Thanks for asking.”

The league wants to interview players who were named in a report about cheating using drugs or growth hormones or whatever , doesn't matter. The league needs to and should do everything to protect the integrity of competition on the field. The NFLPA fights the League on any and every issue because they aren't partners but antagonist. The absolutely should represent and fight for the players against injustice but this is silly. Maybe the league is building a case to fight in court or sue this network for slander and false reporting for ratings..... Who knows, doesn't matter, investigation was started and interviews were requested and should happen.... And the NFLPA should be in those interviews standing beside the players making sure this is legit and not a witch hunt
