We lost one game with Vick as the Starter (and even then it was an OT loss). The other two we won.

If steelers fans were Patriots fans they'd be like "terrible coaching going for it on 4th and 1, should've kicked a FG, then the final drive TD would've won it. bellichik is a terrible coach"

A coach of the year would have had more faith in his hot FG kicker in Denver for a 51 yarder in a tight playoff game. Heck, he might even be going to the SB.

Well, I stand by what I said in that thread. I'm a bit more impressed with him after the heart that this team displayed in the playoffs, but I still see him as being a good - not great - coach. Like most good coaches, he has strengths and weaknesses. I'm not going to rehash my views on his pros and cons, because I've put it out there ad nauseum, and I'm kind of tired of having the discussion. I'll just say that I'm happy to have him, but I'm way more happy to have guys like Ben and AB.

he wasnt and isnt allowed to hire or fire any of his coaches
    he doesnt call offense
    he doesnt call defense
he does what he was hired to do and so far he is doing a good job at that.

I sometimes think that Tomlin has to adhere to a different standard than his two predecessors. Chuck Noll missed the Super Bowl his last 12 seasons and Bill Cowher made it twice in 15 seasons winning once. Tomlin has already been to 2 Super Bowls with a win and almost won a playoff game this season with a MASH unit yet people still bash him.

Ron Rivera says hi 15-1, Tomlin did a good job getting the team to the playoffs but I disagree.

I said Andy Reid in the original chat about this and I'm still saying it. What the Cheifs done was really remarkable. Rivera has an awesome case though.

This is too funny, now lets not forget the Buffalo Bills had to beat NYJ just for us to get into the playoffs.

Unless it comes down to who should be on the field,( Blake) or going for one of his bonehead gut instinct decisions , which usually cost us the game.

even the most diehard tomlin lovers have to admit that tomlin won that super bowl with cowhers players. he lost the super bowl with a few less cohwer players. as cowhers players leave and tomlins fill in, there has been less success in the playoffs. when ben leaves, it will be tomlins team.
as far as noll's and cowher's poor years, and some years of underachieving, i dont remember too many people claiming they should be COTY those seasons

If you make the "with Cowher's players" argument, you shouldn't be taken seriously when it comes to evaluating coaching.

what then qualifies you to be considered 'serious' when you evaluate coaching?

I think even the most diehard Tomlin detractors have to admit that - if nothing else - Tomlin pushed the right buttons, and avoided pushing the wrong buttons, so that everything that was good with the team that he inherited remained in place. That's much, much easier said than done. I personally give him a ton more credit than just not screwing up a good thing, but even that is hard to do.

    agreed.
tomlin was a fresh face and a fresh voice.
im sure that tomlin didnt/wasnt allowed to do much those first few years other than motivate.
he did a good job at that

We can compare our college glory days another time if you like. But, to answer your question, it's simply not saying things that are utter nonsense like below:

So Tomlin was allowed to fire DL and Arians and hire his own coordinators when he got hired?
    Tomlin fired Arians?
    Tomlin hired Haley?
    Tomlin hired Butler?

    yup, thought so.

We don't really know what Tomlin was allowed to do or not do when he was hired. Most likely, whatever he wanted to. Just because he kept DL, isnt an indiction that he wasn't allowed to replace him. Perhaps just being the best DC in the league was reason enough for him to keep him.

Prove that the answer to any of those questions isn't "yes". Prove it with factual evidence.

I understand that these are normal "low information" positions that are held throughout the Pitternet. I've always found them laughably naive. But I do understand the need for some to create narratives that explain things they don't understand.

Here's the painful truth. You don't have a clue what Tomlin is "allowed" or "not allowed" to do. Do I? No. That's why I don't make up nonsense to explain why we didn't win the last 8 Super Bowls.

    Yup, thought not
