Again, he has no say. He can ask however, he’ll do what he’s told.

The only way I see us taking a QB in round 1 is if we don't want Pickett around next season... and I don't think his play has warranted that type of attitude. Rudolph wouldn't want to stay anyways, and Trubisky could be a cap casualty. I'd assume we would sign a back up for not a ton of money in the offseason. Bye Trubisky, bye Mason, camp arm QB3

Why would Brissett come to Pittsburgh to be third string?

Not sure I see a pathway for either of them unless there is serious renegotiation on MTrubusky side?

Mitch most likely returns to play out his contract.
As we saw, he is capable of barely managing a game.

    I doubt Mason returns.

The third QB will come from the late rounds (I'd prefer undrafted or some one's practice squad)

Mitch played a solid game yesterday. He is worth keeping at this point. He is scheduled to make 10,625 mill which is steep for a back up but he knows the system. I don't see him going to anther team and competing for a starting job at this point. But you never know.

Pack your bags Rudolph and head somewhere else. It's been more then obvious your not wanted.

Mason will be off to Greener Pastures... but I still think he can handle the job of being an NFL back up and being and NFL back up QB isn't a bad gig.

Mitch will back up Kenny in 2023.

Would imagine an undrafted ROOKIE FA or veteran will battle for a 3rd spot in 2022.

Who knows maybe Josh Dobbs circles back around again...

The need for a decent backup should not and does not affect who they take in the first round of the draft, just as the death of Haskins didn't have anything to do with taking Pickett in the first round. I'm not sure why people think otherwise.

Unless Pickett isn't cleared and he has an ongoing issue related to his recent concussion, they aren't even going to consider a quarterback in the first round of the upcoming NFL draft. Pickett hasn't been great as a rookie, but he has made steady improvement.

You mean like Tuitt? How long were many in the dark about what was going on? Speculation about his knee or his brother or both. Who knew of TJ's needing knee surgery after his pec injury? Usually, you're right in that reporters are fighting to get recognized for breaking news items first. I think if the org wants to keep something behind a curtain, they've already proved to me that they can. JMO>

He is scheduled to make $8 million. The rest of the cap hit for 2023 is half of his signing bonus. That is why they can save $8 million by cutting him.

He was solid against the Panthers, but he made three really dangerous throws into coverage. One or more could have easily been intercepted. They were all poor decisions. Take the one he forced downfield in the direction of Pickens. If that had been on target, it likely would have been an interception or it have gotten Pickens lit up. He had an easy underneath throw to Warren, who had the room to get the first down.

Rudolph is gone. Even if they did want him, I can't see him even considering an offer from the Steelers.

They are, but not all concussions are created equal. We don't really know the severity of either one. This could all be very wise precaution.

I have trouble seeing us keeping Mitch next season when we can save $8 million by letting him go.

We need a veteran backup QB. The days of having worthless backup Qb's are over. Kenny is not Ben. He doesn't take hits well. We need a good backup. That said we have shown every agent in the NFL that we can easily be pushed around. Just cry loud enough and we will release you out of your contract. The big question for Mitch is A: can he get $8M somewhere else? AND B: where does he have the best shot to show he's a starter? He might have his best shot showing his skills in Pittsburgh. backing up a concussion prone young QB that likes to run means you are probably going to be starting some games. I have a hard time believing he will be handed a starting job anywhere else. But who knows. Maybe he does. $8m is not a big deal anymore . The cap hit for Qb's is usually higher so $8m is fair.

Lets not forget we have waisted far more $ on mediocre LB's, corners, and O-linemne that should be backups. What can you possibly save on a good backup? $2 or 3M tops? Draft a QB if we want but you can't hand them the #2 spot unless it's a 1st rounder and that aint happening. We need depth everywhere. We need starting ILB's. BUSH is horrible. We need a #1 corner, Safety, WR, D-line as well. We have so many needs we can use our #1 pick anywhere. We could use a #1 on Strong Safety, Corner, DT, OT, ILB or DE. WR also cannot be ignored. DJ is as over rated as they come. How many years we gonna pay that guy?

As you probably noticed we have more holes than just QB

Our top 3 choices need to address those issues

If you want a backup those aren’t hard to find FA

Keep Trubisky.... Rudolph is gone anyway. Draft another Brock Purdy in the 7th round....:icon mrgreen:

49ers did their homework. Steelers need to get with the program.
