Yeah it's just one of those things where a guy becomes a total elitist. Why in the crap would a space opera, sci-fi, drama have Shakesperean dialog. Also one of the greatest lines in movie history is when Leia tells Han she loves him and he says "I know". Dude that is just so dang cool. Old Willy Shakespeare could have never came up with a hum dinger as good as that one. Also when she calls Han a "scruffy lookin' nerf herder" and he says "Hey! Who's scruffy lookin'?" LOL! And don't even get me started on the line I live by "Judge Me By My Size Do You?" I have a shirt that says that.

I think you may be onto something....maybe Alec was really just jealous because he wanted to be the one to tell Leia, "I know," so he just badmouthed everything else to make himself feel better.

Don't forget the classic, "But I was goin' in to Toshi Station to pick up some power converters!" And the ever delightful, "What's that flashing?!?!"

LOL! Another great line is Boba Fett saying "he's no good to me dead". Or when Leia is shooting at the Storm Troopers in ROTJ and Han looks at her and says "I love you". I'm surprised George Lucas didn't take that line out since it has to do with shooting and Han. LOL.

And then there was the time that George Lucas was trolling everyone by wearing his very own Han Shot First shirt:

Lucas, despite creating one of the best movie franchises, really is egomaniac moron. The way he keeps going back and tinkering with things, like making Vader scream"Noooo"before picking up the Emperor and pitching him over the railing, soooo freaking cheesy. 1,000 times better the way it was originally. Making Greedo shoot first, retarded, much cooler with Han blowing him away.

In the end, all his tinkering means nothing to me, I saw the originals and thats how I remember them.

You are EXTREMELY lucky because I never got to see them. I've only seen the mangled version. I mean I've seen clips of things the way they originally were but dude I mean he has went WAY overboard with stuff. He has changed things like putting more rocks on Tattoine to making Landau say the same thing twice instead of once to speeding up the title crawl and more. It's really just ridiculous. What makes it even worse is that years ago he testified before the House about how art is in jeopardy if it's not preserved and said it would be horrible for original work to be changed and things like that. So that makes it even more infuriating for the fans when he becomes the posterboy for messing with stuff. There's a movie called The People vs George Lucas that really goes in to this in detail. It's on Netflix if you can watch it. There is also a guy that has a whole youtube series of vids that are like 20min a piece documenting all the changes. That's how many he made. Ironically though I think he always keeps the Storm Trooper that bumps his head in there. LOL!!!

Dude that HAS to be photoshopped! PLEASE tell me that was photoshopped! Oh man that is ridiculous dude. That honestly irritates me if he is really wearing that. He has told more versions of the Han thing than there are JFK conspiracy theories. He has said that the only reason people thought Han shot first was because of a weird angle. Then he has said that it just didn't fit with Han's character to shoot first. But what's really funny is that a guy done a study of Han and found that he literally shoots first in EVERY OTHER SINGLE SHOOTING SCENE HE IS IN! LOL!

No, that's a real shirt. There are quite a few pictures from different angles showing him wearing it.

That's too bad that you didn't get to see the originals. I saw each of them in the theater several times (I was 5 when the first one came out and my dad took me to see it at least 5 or 6 times in the theater because we liked it so much). It's worth tracking them down if you can. There was one DVD release that had the original Star Wars as a bonus DVD, but it wasn't remastered or anything, so it doesn't look that great. I've still got the last THX version that was released on VHS that was marketed as "the last time the original trilogy will ever be sold," but who knows if I'll ever hook up a VCR to any of my TVs to watch the video tapes again.

Yeah when he released those he actually didn't make them wide screen or even full screen. He just made them like non anomorphic or something like that. They were just in a little black square on the screen. A lot of fans were infuriated about that. It just seemed like a wise guy move on his part.

South Park did an episode years ago about Lucas and Speilberg changing their movies.

I remember that. It was hilarious. The security guys that arrested the kids said "we've got flashlights and we're not afraid to use them!" LOL! That was in reference to Speilberg removing the guns from E.T. Also when Matt and Tre talked about wanting to have huge mechs walking around in the background on the original episode of South Park I thought I would die from laughter.

The THX VHS release I have is widescreen, it's just that it's the old SD widescreen format, meaning that you have to zoom in on an HDTV to get it to fill the screen.

Im not a Star Wars fan. Never was. In fact I have never seen a Star Wars movie. Wife says Im most likely the ONLY person on the planet who has not. I understand there are pre and post trilogy. From what I know EP 1 is movie 4 (or something like that).

My question is... Having not seen one movie, and if I were inclined to, in what order should I watch the Star Wars movies?

BFT. I would put the utmost credence to your response of this question. As I believe you to be the number 1 expert on this topic here. Thank you my friend in advance and please wish me well on a 15 hour or so Star Wars binge watching session. Hope I dont run out of popcorn or TP.

    Return Of the Jedi.

Those are episodes 4/5/6....But are 1/2/3 in chronological order. So I should watch them all in chronological order?? Thats what confuses me. Why shouldnt I watch them in episode order?

Sorry for just now getting to respond. I'm on vacation and my computer time is really limited here because I go go go. I would personally say watch the originals first because that's where the true magic is at. The great characters and the great story all originated there. It would be possible to watch the originals and not feel like there even needed to be prequels because by the end of the 3rd film everything feels totally resolved. The first ones just have SO many classic moments that you lose count. The thing is also that one of the prequels is literally based on this one little line that Luke asked Obi Wan when he says "you were in the Clone Wars?" That's it. Then George Lucas acted like it was his master plan all along to write The Clone Wars and he put that line there for that. He didn't in my opinion. You will like them. They are MUCH more than sci fi and to JUST call them that is an insult really. They are action, drama, war, and even a touch of a western movie. They have everything you could want in a movie. You won't be disappointed.

I agree with what strummerfan and BFT both said. You really need to start with the original movies, A New Hope (which didn't even have that name originally, it was just called "Star Wars"), The Empire Strikes Back, and Return of the Jedi. Once you've watched those, then maybe go and watch the newer ones that are now episodes 1, 2 and 3, but go into them keeping in mind that they don't have the charm of the originals and that (in my opinion) they take themselves way too seriously, which was not at all the way the originals were written. The newer prequels do have some good moments and are worth watching, they just didn't live up to most of our expectations.

I agree about the prequels being too serious. The political crap in them gets really heavy handed. Also the love story nonsense is just lame. The originals are just pure fun and adventure from start to finish. Revenge of the Sith is the only prequel worthy of the name I think. Also I think Gen Greivous and Darth Maul are the new characters that are the best.

    Better: watch 4, 5 and 6.

Then watch the RedLetterMedia reviews on youtube of 1, 2 and 3. They hit the nail on the head in some detail, to the point I think I prefer watching the review to the actual film.

For me, 1, 2 and 3 made a fundamental mistake in the storytelling. In A New Hope, you're thrown into this new universe, following a story, and just being aware there's all these other cool things in the background that as a kid you could immerse yourself in, and make your own.

In the prequels, they try and explain *everything*. There's no mystery, very little awe, no hints or suggestions. As a result, the plots feel more contrived and forced. The films made the universe much smaller, even though the capacity to represent what Lucas had in his mind was so much more.

I'm hopeful for 7. I just hope Abrams played Knights of the Old Republic 2, as that's how to tell a good Star Wars story...

Thank you all for your opinions!! Looks like I will be watching in chronological order as thats what you all have suggested. What I need now is a day off where it rains all day and a ton of Orville Redenbacher.

THANKS again guys for your opinions!!!

I liked all of them but agree that Star Wars, Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi (4,5,6) is where you should start, that's where the magic was.
