NFL’s new postseason overtime rule means game doesn’t end with a TD on first possession

What would be your choice if you win the coin toss?...Do you take the ball first or you defer?

And if you take the ball second after the other team has scored a TD (7 points), if you score a TD too, are you going for the win (go for 2) or just for the extra point to continue the game?

I like the original rule. Who ever scores first wins. Defense plays a big role that way.

The college OT rules are pretty entertaining with each team getting a possession then run a 2 pt conversion starting with 2nd OT. It would shorten the OT and force someone to win it. I really don't like a whole extra 10 minute period that could still end in a tie. Kind of boring especially if the teams have good defenses and crappy offenses.

I agree, but in the playoffs in the NFL. It can't end in a tie anyway.

It does make an interesting situation to decide to defer or not, and then going for 2 if that option arises. As it is the play offs and this is actually sudden death, I think you have to kick the point and trust your D. Though at that level moving the ball 30 or 35 yards would likely be enough, so how much confidence do you have...like Canada would call the jet sweep...so you kick lol

Kickoff. Better to know what you need to score and have the advantage of using 4th down if you must score.

Nah, that gets you what happened with the Denver game. That should have been another showdown with NE and Pitt after a 12-4 season. One fluky overtime win and the next game was a BS slaughter of an 8-8 team in NE.

If the team can't stop Tim Tebow on one fricking play in OT then they don't deserve another chance.
