I didn't like it. IMO if you're a team Captain you have to lead by example. I think it's a big part of the problem with leadership on this team.

I understand the age concerns, but not the health questions. Yeah, he had injuries last year, but he's stayed pretty healthy throughout his career.

The way I understand it, this contract is very easy to get out of without salary cap implications after this year. If he plays like he did in 2022 (his last healthy season) we get him at good value. If his play drops off the cliff, he's cut next year without any substantial cap hit. There's no downside to this contract for the team.

So is this a potential preview of sorts in terms of what the Steelers will look for in the 2025 NFL Draft?!

Pittsburgh had scouts in both the Clemson Georgia game along with the likes of Penn State and West Virgina. Granted, neither have IDL assistance in the First Round but Nazir Stackhouse from Georgia is an interesting player for certain. He can play both NT and DT.

Should this be the move, would moving Keeanu Benton to a DT be more feasible in 2025?! Time will tell for it is still way too early. Still fun to speculate though!

Regardless, well earned Cam!! Now, stay healthy dammit!! For that matter, step it up Leal!!

    I believe it was sarcasm

He was recovering from groin surgery why would he endanger that by doing extra voluntary workouts beyond what the trainers had him doing

And yet idiots here tried to crucify him

Not sure I like the Idiot comment Jeh.
He's a Team Captain and a leader. IMO he should've been there. May not have been able to practice with the injury, but could've still been there as a leader.
If not then don't accept the team Captain title.
    Lead by example.

We have some depth on the DL, maybe better rotation this season to keep him fresh.

A key member will be DeMarvin Leal. Interior Lineman generally take up to three seasons to develop. Leal was supposed to take that next step last season but didn't. This season though is different. Question remains is if he can continue to ascend?!

Leal will probably play more OLB this season than DL.

Is that money in the bank for next year

It doesn’t appear they need it this year other than the usual change for a mid season addition in the event of injury

I read where Leal may also rotate a bit on the edge. One of the reasons they only kept (3) OLB. Position flexibility.

This is a actually a 2 year contract extension for $29 million. Of the $29 million $26 million is due in roster bonus. Not a new 3 year deal that Can originally wanted.

Each year has basically a $13 million roster bonus in 2025 & 2026 due in March, so the Steelers can call it quits if they need to and not get burned. Good contract for Khan and company.
