Neck Tackling

    This season, defenses seem to be tackling ball-carriers by the neck a LOT more than I've ever seen in seasons past. Is this a response to head-to-head contact avoidance, a new "fundamental", something else ... ?

    It's gotta be. The only problem is that the higher you tackle, the more likely you are to miss. Not only do you not stop the legs up high, but it's harder to change directions coming in high. Leads to more attempts on your heels reaching with your arms... this is the exact reason why tackling in the NFL has gotten so bad.

    I misread the thread title as "Neck-ing" and was curious how you were going to tie that favorite past time in with the Steelers - thought perhaps you used to date one of the Steelers cheerleaders back in the day. :grin:
