That game was pathetic. I’m confident we’ll get on track. Just tired of the preseason hangover every year.
Montcrap needs a foot up his azz.

I really think Colbert has lost his fast ball. Bud, Edmunds, Burns, Bush all part of the problem tonight. That’s a lot of draft capital used on players that don’t look like they can play

Fichtner called a really bad game too. Subbing in Samuels in the 1st quarter (I think it was) didn't do any favors. Let JC30 get it going a little first.

And the bombs away on 3rd down needs dialed in. They hit one to Washington. Low percentage plays, but lets give the ball back to NE instead of just trying to get the 1st down.....great idea. I wonder if Ben is calling that at the line or not. RF needs to get in his face if that's the case.

Did anyone else notice the diabolical way the Pats were able to block in the back on punt returns? Guy grabs the Steelers players are and tugs him so that his torso has to turn and then right before he can tackle the Pats player shoves by the shoulder. Just sick to watch.

    Positives?!

Devin Bush ended the game with 11 total tackles. Granted, he was not out there as much as I thought he would be but he did fairly well. Here is hoping for more come next week.

James Washington needs more targets. Not "yesterday" either. NOW.

    Negatives?!

I could harp on and on. Sans those two players of course, this was terrible all the way around. However, such time would waste such a wonderful feeling on the wine now corsing through me. Instead?!

    COMPLETE. TEAM FAILURE.

    Better yet?!?!

But get out of here with your little facts and figures. This is not the time for that nonsense.

It’s an anamoly though. Pittsburgh getting blown out quite more frequently each season. Not good

The team is soft and stupid, like the head coach and owner. Nothing will change until the management cowardice stops.

This offense is a lot like the old Bruce Arians offense. Damn the torpedoes and line up in the shotgun even in short yardage. If Ben's having an off night, the offense is pretty useless.

Can someone explain to me why Keith Butler was such a hot commodity in Tomlin and Art II's eyes?

    The pathetic, impotent running game.

Line up and ram it down their throat. Don't go 5 wide every time you have 1 yard to go.

Sad thing is they can’t get 1 yard when the defense knows they are running lol

Maybe they could if they used the FB and 2 TEs set in short yardage situations.

Sorry to say but the short yardage woes fall at the feet of Ben. If he wanted to run power football we would. Who is telling him we shouldn’t? There was the 4th and 1 where they lined up with Conner. Ben called a TO they went 5 wide and that’s the play Mongrief dropped the ball. Yes it should of been a conversion but the point is you have to be physical when you need to be. It not only sets the tone for the game but for the season and the team as a whole. We’ve been getting softer as a team and that’s a big part of it.

I read a stat the other day that no team besides the Giants have won a SB since 2000 without a run % of 40% or more. Giants were at something like 39.8. So if anyone thinks we are gonna be able to go 5 wide and spread the ball around and not effectively run the football especially in short yardage situations is sadly mistaken. You have to at least give the appearance you’re going to run for short yardage. NE ran a ton of FB formations and ran and passed out of them. They didn’t seem to have any problems putting up points with that strategy.

    Is Nix a Captain?

Sure would have been nice to see him block or smash it in for the TD himself at the goal line.

    Observations.

    1) Steelers always start the season slow. It didn't help that it was against NE tonight in front of a national audience.
    2) Ben and the 1st team offense is never in sink early. There was no game plan to speak of.
    3) Bad offensive play calling.
    4) James Washington is looking a lot like Mike Wallace, "One trick pony". Seems like he's always targeted on the deep pass. I know he's capable of more than just that.
    5) Our receiving corp will not scare anyone this year. Moncrief must go.
    6) James Conner never got in a rhythm.
    7) Offensive line did not look as good as it did last year. Way too much pressure on Ben. He already holds on to the ball way too much as it is. Do we miss Munchak already?
    8) Missed tackles, missed assignments.
    9) Brady will forever hurt you with the crossing routes. Then kill you with the occasional deep pass. We have always known is coming but can never stop it. Don't know why we can't do the same to them.
    10) I'm sure there's way more but I give up. We just got OUT CLASSED AGAIN. Until the day Brady retires, he will always stand in the way of another Steeler Super Bowl.
