NFL defenses are freakishly athletic. Can we get a different criteria.

Yes, I would say we underperformed. Defensively we are far too talented (and pay far too much money) to finish as low as we did. I think a lot of it is due to getting out schemed. We are best in the league at turning the opposition over due to having tons of individually excellent players (Heyward, Queen, Watt, Highsmith, Minkah, Elliott, etc.), but when the talent isn't destroying the game in the 1v1's, the opposition is exploiting our coaching.

Offensively we are probably on par. We overperformed for a bit with a couple of big moonball games, and have been massively underperforming for a month or so now... but we probably should be a middle of the pack offense. Not having a competent WR2 and Najee underperforming have been the biggest thing holding our offense back. Russ's propensity to turn it over hasn't helped matters either.

Do we roll with Russ and upgrade the weapons and hope it makes a difference? Or do we trade the moonball for ball security and running ability and go with Fields? Couple routes to go with the offense.

The Steelers were seventh in the league in time of possession during the regular season, just behind the Ravens and ahead of the Chiefs. There is plenty to criticize about the offense, especially the last four games, but it simply is not true that the defense has gotten no help from the offense "every single week." If you written that they got no help from the offense the last four weeks, that would have been fair, though time of possession is also a measure of what a defense does. The Steelers' defense couldn't get off the field against the Eagles. The offense moved the ball when they had it in the second half, but the Eagles pulled away with three time-consuming drives.
