Agree they will use him better because of better coaching, but that's not going to get Harris to hit the hole quicker for get better speed to the outside or for longer runs or even better vision.

If the charges think he is more than he has shown then why did they only offer him $5M and 31 other teams had little interest

    Let’s see you twist that

Why didn't Warren become the starter if he's great as some of you fans make him out to be ?

We might get a shot to see this year. Nobody is getting 1,200 yards and catching 70 passes when you get 8 carries and 2 passes thrown your way a game. Barring a bit of a shock and we draft a RB in round 1, it is starting to look like Jaylen is going to get an opportunity to get the workload that Najee got over the past two years. If that is the case, we will get to see what Jaylen can do with the increased load. I'd be surprised if he didn't out produce what we got from Harris.

Keep in mind... Jaylen played behind the same line as Najee did, often outperforming what Harris brought to the table. He has a lot of traits that translate to a guy that can thrive in a lead role. Only time (and opportunity) will tell.

Teams can't stack the box against Herbert the way they did against the Steelers' collection of quarterbacks over the last four years. They also have a better line. Once he gets going, he is very difficult to stop. The problem was that the Steelers often didn't give him any chance to get going.

For the most part, Warren didn't play in the same situations as Harris. He played in spread formations much more of the time. He was on the field for third downs when the defense was expecting a pass. He very rarely got the ball in short yardage. Folks here seem to ignore all of those factors.

That is the problem though. He got those stats because we gave him the ball 307 times, which is wild. We targeted him 94 times in the passing game.... We did the same thing with Rashard Mendenhall in 2010. Gave it to him 324 times and he just so happened to get 1273 yards, but it was inefficient. Its because he wasn't really that good. We reduced his workload a bit and it helped a bit, but only to the tune of .2 yards per game. Its a similar story with Harris. Najee's first 1-1/2 years in the league he rushed 427 times for 1590 yards (playoff games included). That's a 3.72 ypc average, which... sucks. As soon as Jaylen entered the fray as a legitimate second option (starting with the NO game in 2022 at 9 carries), things changed for Najee. He finished the year much stronger, and ever since he's reduced his load and split more carries, he has been more productive to the tune of 692 carries for 2781 yards (4.01 ypc). So getting the ball less resulted in less total yards, but more production. It also might've lit a bit of a fire under him too since Warren for his career has been nearly a full yard per carry better than Najee (running in the same situations and behind the same line).

To put it bluntly, Najee's reduced load hasn't been a hindrance to his production. It's actually been good for him. There isn't anything to argue about otherwise, since the stats back it up perfectly. I know you react with a "disagree" every time I point out the stats backing me up here, but the reality is that Najee is (and always has been) a guy that will get you what is blocked and nothing more. The advanced stats prove that he's one of the league's worst in yards gained past expected. Warren's been among the best in the league. If he can put that on the field with a larger workload, we might have something. We wont know until the season starts.

I don't know that they're ignoring things. Some of what you're saying is based on perception, or isn't true/relevant statistically.

Out of 346 attempts, Warren has only rushed the ball 30 times on 3rd down, and 14 of those were 3rd and 1-3 yards to go. So, 16 rushes (or 30) on more pass-likely situations is way too small to have a significant impact on his overall performance metrics.

As for the spread formations, do you have a source on that split? I honestly don't. It's reasonable to conclude Warren would be in the backfield on passing downs, and in general his YPC increases the more yards are needed for a first down, but that's every RB. It would add color to know more specifics on personnel groupings so we could try and deduce the spread formations/passing downs you allude to. But without them it's an area where memory/perception bias can creep in.

I wish the they would've tried featuring Warren more while Harris was still here. While I'm hopeful he can be a dynamic runner in that position, I've got concerns as well.

Who cares dude the OL was trash, and the backup was Snell IIRC. Of course Najee was going to carry the load, you can brag about Warren's YPC all you want it's not that impressive when you get 10 carries or less agame.

Warren isn't going to be a bell cow RB, he will be part of a three-man rotation at RB.
