why do teams rest the starters the last week of the season when their game means nothing. shouldn't they be getting ready for the playoffs? if game 1 of the regular season means so much wouldn't getting them ready for a one and done game be more of a reason to have them ready in a game setting? :smiley1::cool:

Tell me how $hity the defense would have been without Watt. He's not a team player?

The defense was dealt a blow when Tuitt didn't come back and Alualu got injured and the fashion plate showed he was worthless as well as the guy they just signed. Next man up right? How did that work out?

Not everyone does. Bad analogy anyway. By the end of the season your guys are beat to ****, that rest can be very needed and get them healthy.

And if players are rested preseason or before playoffs and the team comes out flat there are a hundred FMTI posts for not having the team ready

    Same :bscow: different day

The "next man up" philosophy is fine and all until that next man up is me, in which case we're pfucked. At this rate, looks like we all better keep loose case we get that phone call.

Sorry folks but football is a brutal sport where injuries happen Injuries happen in practice. I injuries happen in camp. I injuries happen in preseason. I injuries in games. Some players have injuries off the field.

What is the big deal here? Like I am sure discussions happened with Harris, the Dr., the coaches, the owner, ect. Harris said he was good to play. So Harris played.

Better to know now if Harris was done for the season than to let him hurt the team limping throughout the season week to week with his availability.

Relative to cold beer it’s a function of how long it was in my possession

would you rather know you have a cold beer now or later?

For example, Harris said, "coach believe I can play the last preseason game" or "no coach I need more time to heal from my injury".

Apparently, Harris said he was ready to play. Coaches gave him time to prove he was ready to play vs the opposition. The opposition doesn't care about injury or anything else. The opposition wants to win regardless of circumstances.

I believe Harris proved he is ready to play week one.

The solution is more complex than that. Some guys should sit out entirely or play very little. Someone like Watt is a good example. He proved last season that he really doesn't need preseason games to be ready to go and the idea that the defense would need to adjust to adding him is just silly. They adjusted just fine in the opener last year.

The first-team offense is a different story. The offensive line certainly needs all the work it can get. More importantly, they are incorporating a new quarterback. It has been clear for a while that either Trubisky or Pickett would start the opener, most likely Trubisky. Quarterbacks and receivers need to work together to get their timing down, and I think they need some of that work against a real opponent, not just in practice.

Harris is a different matter entirely. It isn't really the foot that had me concerned about him playing so much Sunday. He just takes so many hits. Any chance to reduce the wear and tear on him seems like a good idea. I understand the other side of it, especially since Harris reportedly felt like he needed the work.

This is why my complaint Sunday was about Watt playing past the first quarter. I had no issue with Johnson playing in the first quarter. I was a little uncomfortable with Harris staying in so long, but I get why it was done.

If you start talking about Kazee sitting, that is getting into the territory of what McVay does with the Rams, sitting everybody in the preseason. I'm not advocating that at all, even with the use of practices with other teams, though it clearly works for the Rams.
