Why would you think Smith thought he was getting Derrick Henry? He knows the personnel on this team, and he knows a lot about the personnel on every team. He has been an OC and was a head coach and I'm sure he had input on drafting players which means he is well versed on all talent coming out in the draft for years now.

We will find out what the team does, but I think he is probably comfortable with the existing backs. He got to see Henry up close and personal. He knows how special he was in his prime, and he's seen many backs since coaching Henry. I think after a lifetime of coaching football and as a head coach and an OC he has a pretty good read on the talent he has available to him.

If he doesn't like Najee, perhaps we will see them move on from him. Time will tell.

This will be his 4th season. Why create another need now?

The Ravens are interested in Henry at least that's the rumor.

Najee had eight explosive plays last season, Henry is a physical freak to be that big and fast, it's useless to compare the two RBs.

I took it he meant Art II, when the team drafted Najee.

That said, we'll see how Najee fairs in Smith's offense with, I expect, an upgrade at OT and C this offseason. Not predicting he'll be a Henry, but he's shown to be a good back and worth the $7M pickup.

You are probably right. I thought he was going with Arthur Smith because of the Derrick Henry reference.

Totally different answer if he meant Art II.

Just took a look, PFR has Najee's 2023 valuation at $6.6M.

So, upgrading an OT and C, and new OC makes $7M a safe pretty safe bet for 2025 IMO.

Go after Henry in place of Harris you mean? Probably more than 7 million.

For me the issue with Henry is age. Najee may not be prime Derrick Henry, but there's a lot more risk with a 30 year-old Henry, and still potential upside with Harris.

That aside, Sportrac estimates a 1-yr/$10.3M contract for him this year. His cap number has averaged between $6M and $16.3M the past four years ($11M average).

    yes - like, before June.

They will pick up Najee's 5th - cheap. But that will be his last year here, I think

Ok I somewhat apologize for for picking on you three but you are a perfect example

    They are not “reports”

They are random bull**** by people who need clicks and/or publish bull****

And then other people quote it

I can't see us having any interest in Henry.

For me, I like this definition the best for "Reports" about Caleb Williams saying "No" to the Bears.

If you say that there are reports that something has happened, you mean that some people say it has happened but you have no direct evidence of it.

The logical thing to do is exercise the 5th year option for Najee. I’m sure that’s what the Steelers will ultimately do. Najee picked it up the last several games of the season and deserves it. They should definitely hold off on extending him though.

    Lighten up Francis.

You also felt that ways about what DJ said about Rudolph but he in fact did say that.

Negotiating a new contract with Harris may prove difficult after remarks he made last season in defense of other RB’s.

I'd pick it up too. Its a bit steep for the player, but not so much so that its horrible. I'd rather try to sign him to a 3 year deal, but he wont like the money he's worth so the 5th yr option makes the most sense

I don't necessarily agree that Harris is our best back, but we need 2 backs either way. Can't rely on just one in today's NFL anymore unless you have a Christian McCaffrey. There is no reason to not pick it up. Heck, I'd be fine with a 3 year 18 million dollar extension (more than fair for his services), but I doubt he likes that deal. We are probably on the 5th year option and choose whether to franchise or not then walk path with Harris. We're not so set at every position that we can be talking about shipping RB's like Harris and WR's like DJ for nothing.

Actually they usually didn't pitch in a whole lot. Thus the running backs getting hit two yards behind the line of scrimmage
