My thoughts on regular season wk 1

The Ravens were up by 15 with 3 minutes left and lost. They were the first team in NFL history to lose a game that scored 40 points and had over 200 yards rushing.

Warren didn't do crap till the 2nd half.

and then , just very little

OJ Simpson would struggle behind this OLINE

 

No OJ always found a way to knife through the defense.

The Bad and the good.
The Bad:
- The Steelers run game was terrible. While Warren did rip off some runs in the 2nd, Tomlin/Smith didn't do themselves any favors with playing #14 a so many downs.
- The run blocking was not good at all. Broderick Jones in particular was bad. Offensive Lines are supposed to love run blocking.
- The Steelers run defense wasn't impressive at all. TJ was really fired up and I think there was some dressing down at have time. They got slightly better. In particular, Cam did not play well.
- Elliot might be gone for the season. He did get beaten badly on a big play but that is an exception.

The Good:
- QB, QB, QB, QB and QB. Rogers isn't a spring chicken and that is sad because the elements he brings to the game we VERY clear.
- WR #2, my favorite topic. Calvin Austin made a 50/50 catch that was as good as any. Metcalf was a machine. The #3 spot is a little weak but a guy like Rogers can make anyone look great.
- I like the inside passing to the TE's and really appreciate what Smith brings to the table.
- Boswell. He is Boswell.
- Just when I was getting concerned about Ramsey he makes the plays I expect.
- LB's, I think we are going to be ok across the board there.
- ST's in general were pretty good.

Agreed why did they use Gainwell so much. Warren has a knack for sneaking out of the backfield for short swing passes.

 

So does Gainwell, but Warren is a far better runner and blocker. It makes no sense to use Gainwell that much unless Warren can't handle a larger workload. I hope that is just a matter of building to a larger workload after barely seeing the field during the preseason.

 

Gainwell is okay at the swing passes but Warren goes out a little wider and is more sneaky going out. Often looks to block first then sneaks out.

Wilson had an actual run game then. Rodgers had nothing but his arm... and smarts.

I have no worries about Ramsey. He is a player. I worry more about Slay. He got torched on that one TD

 

It's true. He always does. We kicked alot of FGs last year and average 17 points a game. In fact the Steelers kicked more FGs then any other team last year ( 41)

 

Man, I agree 100%. That's going to be really embarrassing in the film sessions tomorrow... You have to sit there with all the DB's and listen to "This is not how it's done."
