I've participated over the past week in a mock draft that consisted of approximately 90-100 "GM's" total for all of the teams. Myself(@Steel_By_Design) along with @SteelDad and @RetroRockCity handled the Steelers war room, follow them and me if you're on twitter. The site hosting the draft was mockone.net

I had a lot of fun and you realize just how crazy and stressful it must be for the actual teams going this stuff. We were often talking with several teams on trades before each pick, or hoping one of our guys fell, or disagreeing about prospects. It was a lot of fun, and I was pretty happy with our results...

Would love to hear your guys' feedback...

    1. Jarvis Jones, OLB, Georgia
All of us were pretty much in agreement that Jones wasn't our favorite pick, but that Jones represented the best value, and we couldn't get a decent offer to move down. We all wanted Kenny Vacarro who went surprisingly to the Chargers at #11. We considered Cordarelle Patterson too, but we felt Jones was safer.
Others considered: Jonathan Cooper, Cordarelle Patterson, Xavier Rhodes, Tyler Eifert

    2. Eddie Lacy, RB, Alabama
One of our GM's really wanted a WR here, but there was a big run on them at the end of round 1. The highest WR on my board was Quinton Patton and I felt like Lacy was a better value. We also had a deal reached with the Niners for this pick. We would get their 2, 3, and 4 for our 2nd... but they balked when their guy (DJ Swearington) went right before our pick. I was really heavily torn between Lacy and Manelik Watson. I really liked Lacy but felt that Watson was a first round talent and possible franchise left tackle, and knew there would be good RB's later... The other two liked Lacy, and since I was on the fence I thought we better go with majority.
Others considered: Manelik Watson, Jonathan Hankins, Quinton Patton

    3. Aaron Dobson, WR, Marshall
Zach Ertz took a big tumble and was there to start the 3rd. We tried to move up but teams were asking way too much. We decided that Travis Kelce would be the pick, because we liked him better than the receivers, but he went right before us. We settled on Dobson, who we all agreed was valued right where we picked him in the 3rd.
Others considered: Matt Barkley (Qb's really fell), Barrett Jones, Jon Bostic, Ryan Swope

    4. T.J. McDonald, S, USC
Seemed like there was a trend of guys getting taken within 2-3 picks ahead of us. We wanted Shemarko Thomas, but settled for McDonald. We felt he was a good value, and we needed to get a safety somewhat early in this draft.Others considered: Duke Williams, Dion Sims, Will Davis

    5. Oday Aboushi, OT, Virginia
This was one case where we saw a guy falling and he fell into our laps. We felt like a lot of tackles went before him, that shouldn't have. Aboushi is a very athletic tackle that fits the zone blocking scheme perfectly. He'd provide good depth right away and possible even play LT down the line for us. I actually got over ruled here, I wanted Mauti, but was happy with Aboushi.
Others considered: Mike Mauti, Tyler Bray

    6. Mike Mauti, ILB, Penn State
Good thing I got over ruled in the 5th, because Mauti was still there in the 6th. With about 5 picks to go Mauti and Denard Robinson were there and we were all on the fence about which way to go. Robinson came off the board, so the pick was easy then. This might have been my favorite pick in the draft.
    Others considered: Walter Stewart

    6. Conner Vernon, WR, Duke
Vernon is a big sleeper. He's not all that fast but he could be a great slot receiver with his great hands and body control. We also see him as our punt returner. We were actually all agreed that we'd take Landry Jones at this slot, but he went RIGHT before our pick. We had discussed Vernon before that though and liked him too.
    Others considered: None

    7. Ryan Griffin, QB, Tulane
Quarterbacks really fell in this draft. Geno Smith went #6 to Cleveland, and the next one(Tyler Wilson) didn't come off the board until 3.07. We considered guys like Barkley, Bray, and Landry Jones througout the draft but all felt like there was a guy on the board at the time that would help the team more than that QB. Teal we felt, had some tools and was worth taking a 7th round flier on.
    Others considered: None

Sounds like you guys did a nice job and had a lot of fun. No surprise, I would have grabbed Bray in the 5th. That would have been a great value pick for the most talented QB in the draft and we would have had our next franchise QB on the roster being groomed (and maturing) for a few years behind Ben.

Well done. I don't see us/hope we don't start with a Jones/Lacy 1-2 punch, but on paper they're two good picks.

Well SBD, you and I rarely agree on things Steeler-related, but I think you did a good job in this mock. The only pick that I didn't like was Lacy in the 2nd, but I could even live with that one if the rest of the draft fell that way. I love the Dobson pick in the 3rd. He has some work to do, but I think he can end up as the best WR in this draft 3 years from now. If the draft falls this way, I'm pretty happy.
