I want to be an NFL ref, those guys can screw up more than the weather man. There were two sets of rules on the field today.

Despite the onesided officiating, we still should have dominated this game. Tomlin managed to deliver an utterly unprepared and motivated team to Miami. The announcers kept talking about every given Sunday... this wasn't one of those cases. Miami looked as bad as they are, we just managed to look worse.

The most frustrating part was we showed at the end on both sides that we could do it. We just didn't bother to execute for the majority of the game.

I'm not ready to dump Haley, this offense has grown a lot since Arians, but I'm about done with the Keith Butler experiment. This defense has gotten ugly looking. The red zone lock down is fine against bad teams, but if the offense isn't firing or we play a great team, it just isn't enough. We need sacks, we need turnovers, and we need to get off the field on third down.

Praying the injury bug stops eating our team alive and people start getting healthy...

    Injuries never help. Penalties though?

The non-call on the horsecollar on Bell was a drivekiller, to be sure.

The Steelers players looked frustrated all day with the refs.

I dunno, I'd have to watch the game again to see if that was the case. Which I don't really have the motivation to do.

They got a first down on the next play.
Even bringing up the refs after a loss like that is weak. Which ref missed all those tackles, and threw those picks?

I don't think anybody is blaming the loss on the refs, but to give them a pass every week and say you have to overcome it is ridiculous. If Mitchell sneezed on them it was a PF but heaven forbid they call an obvious horse collar or the holding and offsides that happened every drive.

Pittsburgh still should have won the game (more a testament to how terrible the fish are) but the refs were applying a different standard of rules depending on what team they were calling.

I do not think they got past the seven mile mark let alone the 3.5 point before losing them.

I can never understand some fan's perspective of Officials losing a game? I think if the Steelers coaches
have their players prepared to play a football game and the players play fundemental football and execute you will not see
a performance like this or Philly game. I have said it for years. I can take us losing to a team that has superior talent,
but these 2 losses the teams do not. Art II please tell your coaches to have the team mentally ready each and every week.

Using Mitchell as your example was just... really bad. He deserved both of those PF's and should have known better. Stupid, stupid plays.

Here is the problem with professional sports. The coaches are paid less than the players. So a coach can threaten to drop playing time etc. for bad performances but with the rosters so small there really isn't an option to bench under-performing players. In addition the coaching staff can only do so much. Eventually it falls on the players to be motivated enough to perform and do it on a consistent basis. I think the NFL it truly a week to week league. You can have different things come into play that push the motivation level higher. For the Fins it was about playing for their job yesterday. Gase made an example of players by cutting some starters before the Steelers game so they played like their job was on the line. The Steelers went down like it was a convention in which win or lose no one loses their job. I am not advocating any of the Steeler players should lose their job over a bad game but you saw one team that was desperate and another that knew this game wasn't as important as others later in the season.

Does this excuse the staff for some bad play calls etc? Heck no but you can't continually blame the coaching staff. Coaches can't make the tackles etc. We had guys in the right spots most of the game they just couldn't finish the deal.

I agree, but Haley is not the answer never has been. Anyone can look good with the Killer B's on there team. Once again he called a game trying to be cute and going against the grain. Played right into miami's strength by not running the ball and once again they were unable to move the ball effectively on the road.

Very true, a lot of missed tackles and one of those issues is the lack of depth we have on defense. At one point i think i saw 2 defensive lineman in the game with special teams linebackers trying to playing on or near the line. Injuries are a big problem but from what i saw it looked like the team treated this more like a mini vacation rather then preparing for a professional football game.

I dont like mitchell, but stop using him as a scapegoat. The one PF was tickytack and WAY less egregious than the horse collar on Bell that wasn't called. The other PF was called by a ref who didn't even have a clear line of sight of what happened. The sideline players from the fish were involved in both of those calls, but no flag. Call it both ways or don't call it is all I'm saying.

Why not? Again, they didn't decide the game, if Pittsburgh shows up they win despite the officiating. But why is it acceptable to give terrible officiating a pass. I don't care if they miss calls or not, but call it even. There were 2 different sets of rules on the field yesterday.

The onside kick early in the game, that we recovered and then lost, because the refs weren't ready....I mean seriously? The ref that was right next to the play was ready. Why would we need to be penalized because the dude across the field cant get it together?

I am in no way blaming the refs for our loss. We were not prepared to play. Redemption Sunday was two weeks ago and apparently that was just a one time thing.
