I did a mock draft using today's CBS/NFLDraftscout big board as a point of reference. Basically, my rules were: 1) I could not take a player who's CBS number was earlier than my pick; 2) I could not look ahead on the CBS board, which is why you see Jones at #48 and Dobson at #79 even though the CBS board showed them being available a round later; 3) I relied on my draft board and let the draft come to me - meaning no reaches for position, I just took the BPA on my board (which is already adjusted for positional need and scheme fit). The only point at which I considered position was after I took a guy at a position. For example, I had some WRs rated above Barner at #150 and Mauti at #186, but I had just taken Dobson so I went for positions that I hadn't filled yet. My only real disappointments are 1) that a corner never fell to me at a point where taking him was good value on my board; and 2) I didn't get a top-tier safety for the same reason.

1(17) Jarvis Jones, OLB, Georgia (CBS #18)
2(48) Barrett Jones, C/G, Alabama (CBS #100) [Keenan Allen, who I love, was #47 on the CBS board - GRRR]
3(79) Aaron Dobson, WR, Marshall (CBS #117)
4(115) Shawn Williams, SS, Georgia (CBS #115)
5(150) Kenjon Barner, RB, Oregon (CBS #153)
6(186) Michael Mauti, ILB, Penn St (#CBS 206)
6(206) Rontez Miles, FS, Cal PA (#218) [This one's for you Bristerfan!]
7(223) Joe Kruger, DE, Utah (#226)

    Bash away!

This wouldn't be a bad draft.

my concern is mauti being the only option at ILB. he's had so many injuries and so have we. i love the kid but this is a very risky investment and to use our early 6th on him. i might bring him in but as a 7th rounder or an UDFA with someone else starter worthy to go with him.

i don't know if barner will make the 5th either.

no corner. no qb. worry at ilb. kruger may be OK, but i think theres better late rounders available for my taste.

don't get me wrong i wouldn't complain to much if they decided to go this route elvis, but not my favorites and with concerns.

I don't see us taking a Olineman in the 2nd with more pressing needs. I know we need depth, but that can be found in later rounds and undrafted free agents.

Based on the Draft Scout board, I would go:

    1. OLB Jarvis Jones (Georgia)
    2. RB Jonathan Franklin (UCLA)
    3. OG Barrett Jones (Alabama)
    4. WR Aaron Dobson (Marshall)
    5. S Duke Williams (Nevada)
    6. ILB Mike Mauti (Penn St)
    6. FS Rontez Miles (California(PA))
    7. TE Lucas Reed (New Mexico)

I actually don't like this as much as I should, as I struggled in the 2nd round. At that value, I would have much preferred to take Damontre Moore in Round 2, but then I couldn't take Jones in Round 1 - possibly take Xavier Rhodes?. Regardless, Franklin may be thhe most explosive runner in this draft and he does fill a need. As much as I would prefer a S or WR in Round 3, I cannot pass up Barrett Jones at that value. Then it is is just a matter of coming back with WR/S in the next 2 picks. Pick up an ILB for depth, another S and then BPA in Round 7.

In the mock I posted a few days ago I have us taking Joe Kruger with pick #120 in the 4th round (a pick I have us acquiring in a trade from Minnesota). In most of the research I did, I think this seemed like a pretty appropriate spot for him. I see that CBS has him rated at 223, but I've seen other publications with him going anywhere from 3rd-5th rounds. Wonder why there is such a discrepancy there. I like Kruger a lot from what I've read and think that he could be very solid in our D in 2014 if he bulks up a bit...but I'd be shocked if we got him in round 7.

if you notice on nfl draft scout they have moved some guys that previously had been ranked as DE's and put them in the OLB catagory now. this moved guys up in the DE rankings and visa versa.

guys like john simon. they were DE's in college and they put them where they will play in the pros.
