    1. Veteran at all cost mentality: Tomlin's veteran fetish is a symptom of a larger disease... that disease being coaching laziness.... Tomlin doesn't have the ability to develop a player from the ground up, so he works with players that have already been coached up by someone else.

    2. Lack of discipline and accountability: perhaps the biggest issue here... Tomlin lacks the ability to truly hold a problem player accountable.... instead of catching a cancer early and dealing with it right away, he basically ignores it until it's too late and has to be removed.... same philosophy holds true for his coordinators.... it's the reason he held on to Canada for so long when he should've been fired after last season....

    3. X's and O's: Tomlin is constantly outcoached, week in and week out.... when we do something effective and the opposing coach makes adjustments, we have no counter measures. Tomlin is playing checkers while other coaches are playing chess

    4. No coaching tree: this one is obvious... Tomlin appears to only want coaches he can control.... He wanted Lebeau go e early on and was overruled by Rooney.... it's safe to say that if Tomlin doesn't develop players, then he certainly doesn't develop coaches either

Agree, and would add in-game/gut instinct calls to the list; i.e., timeouts, challenges, 4th down calls, etc. His can be very peculiar with his choice of when and where to reach into the bag of tricks, and his clock management has long been suspect.

More minor, but he does himself no favors with the fanbase having some of these fundamental deficiencies while compound-talking everything at the podium. If you're going to talk the talk, you need to walk the walk.

100% agree with poster. It’s downright maddening at times!……. I get the “no losing seasons”, and him always having us “competing”, but it’s time for a change from both ends. Look, Tomlin is a great coach - he will always have his teams competing, and that is very appealing for many NFL franchises. I just wish he would be less “hard headed” (to your accurate bullet points), and make the “tweaks” needed. Because like it or not, it will be up to Tomlin on what happens next. IF he wants to stay, he will be our coach in 2024. IF he’s burnt out, we will look to trade. But make no mistake about it - he holds the cards. I’m hoping that IF he chooses to stay, AR and Khan will force his hand on “changes” you mention. Great post

That's a big thing for me. His coach speak, at least to me, has become an annoyance. I'm not sure there's ever been a coach who has said more words without really saying anything of content. He has been good about not throwing others under the bus but I just want to hear him say, "This team has a lot of issues and that falls on me. I need to figure out how to fix this". Instead, we get worn out cliches that fall on deaf ears.
At this point, he's mailing in his press conferences like some of his players are mailing in their effort.

He’s the biggest fraud in the NFL and is being exposed for all to see. All his success came from inheriting a dominant veteran Defense with great leadership and a HOF QB. Since those defensive players have retired he has kept the Steelers mediocre but never an actual contender even in Ben’s Prime. It sucks that the Steelers are so bad and we are watching another wasted year but if this is what it takes to finally be rid of him so be it.

One thing people should understand...the national media that fawns over Tomlin .... the NFL is about $$$$$. The NFL is perfectly happy with a small market team like the Steelers being mediocre every year. Playoff wins in four of 17 years and keeping the same coach...this would never happen in one of the big market towns. The media talking heads would be screaming for change. They're perfectly happy with the Steelers being a lousy team because it's a small market and the NFL makes more money when big market teams excel. They simply don't care about Pittsburgh. It's more valuable for the NFL to have some black head coaches and keeping them in place in small market teams. It all boils down to money. Tomlin has benefitted from the NFL goal to increase diversity in coaching, and I'm not opposed to that goal, but Tomlin has been given 17 years and the team has gone nowhere and it's time for a change. I feel that Mr. Rooney will do the right thing and make the change that almost all Steeler fans want.

One thing you need to be a good coach is audacity... the ability to know when to take risks and when to play it safe. Tomlin has absolutely no grasp of intelligent risk-taking.

The good thing is that you can get the direct ticket on YouTube and get any jersey you want on NFL.com. People are going to have to come to grips with him possibly returning and make their own fan business decision.

No, it would be F Art2. Keeping Tomlin around means Art2 is satisfied with maintaining mediocrity, which means we're in contention year in and year out, even if we have no realistic shot at a super bowl.. and most importantly, fans will keep paying to see a team in contention vs a team not in contention, because hope sells. Just good enough is gold in professional sports because it keeps the sucker fanbase dangled by a string, throwing their money into the billionaires' pockets.

Art2 is a shrewd businessman who runs this franchise very differently than his predecessors. Time to get used to it.

For sure. I'm withholding judgment until an extension is actually signed. Too much smoke regarding trade rumors to just hop on board with this.

Maybe this is because the steelers want to keep the value high in the trade market?....Just maybe and don't forget to take just one team!

Steelers very well may want to keep him but the story that Glazer put out is that Tomlin might want to move on. That’s the one that has my eyebrows raised.

I agree. Also Vic Ketchman and Ed Bouchette talked bout it on the 247 Steelers Podcast at pretty great length. Quite a few others specifically noted the teams looking to trade for him as well. I think the speculation is coming Tomlin and/or the camps looking to trade for him.

RGIII forgot to mention that Tomlin kept his best QB on the bench and drafted noodle-arm Pickett #1 and horribly mis-managed this team for the past 17 years.

Creating a little bit of hope only to kick us all in the dickhole in a couple weeks by missing the postseason yet again. I don't care what happens at this point, Tomlin further cemented his legacy of underachieving and mediocrity by losing in back to back weeks to 2 win teams late in the season when you controlled your own destiny. It has become a bad joke at this point and I can only laugh at the dipsh!ts who still support MT and all I can say, well bless your heart <read in Southern drawl>
