I have been into mock drafts for quite a while now. This upcoming one has me as puzzled as any. At 17 and the needs we have there are many directions we could go. I think it depends now on F.A. and the combine. Right now I have shifted my thoughts to ILB or CB. But, if a miracle happens and we sign Edmunds from Buffalo, ILB is off the list (that high anyway).

There are no ILB worthy of the 17th pick. The best one (IMHO) Campbell is rated a 3rd/4th rounder. The highest rated guys, Simpsons and Henley are athletic guys who have great coverage skills but can't get off blockers coz neither is strong enough. Ample fast though.

I think we should go BPA If we don't like what's available at Tackle.

Brian Branch, Bresee, Nolan Smith, O'cyrus Torrence, Kalijah Kancey etc. I'd target whichever one of those guys we like if we can't get a Tackle.

Potential wise Drew Sanders maybe at 32

What is your thoughts on CB? If Witherspoon is there do we select him? I read ARII saying we have needs at every level in the defense. Makes you think they might be looking in that direction.

I don't know, maybe even a WR is not 100% off the table.

It's a tough call between Gonzales and Witherspoon. I'd be glad to have either one of them.

Witherspoon seems like he can bring the wood. Maybe we need a thumper back there ala Woodson or even Lake, although he was a safety.

i'm all for a safety early. a few of these top safeties have the game of most corners in this draft and have that safety ability as well. by the way we could use one. a carnell lake type would work wonders for our defensive backfield.

I would probably lean Gonzalez, Witherspoon is only 180lbs.

I can see that. But I'd make an exception for OL. Either tackle or Guard. Broderick Jones at 17 or O'cyrus/Dawand/Wright at 32. Defense with every other pick. Maybe go back to offense with the 7th Rd pock.

6'2 200 pounds with decent ball skills. I'll lean that way too.

He's projected to run fast too at the combine FWIW.

If they choose a wide receiver with their first pick my head will explode.

I’m not against taking a WR this draft but not at 17. Taking one with their 2B pick I would be fine with. It’s a position you need to keep stocked. If DJ leaves and Austin doesnt pan out that leaves them with just Pickens. They could bring in a FA and see what Austin does, they have high hopes for him. Sims and Miller do not inspire me so hopefully a draft pick or a FA. The FA list is pretty uninspiring too, though.

    No freaking way.
    No freaking way.
There will be plenty of Wrs in all the rounds. That is something the draft always has. IMO
Although 2b pick would be our 3rd pick so I wouldn't be as upset.

With the signings so far, it almost appears #17 will be CB or WR. Just my hunch.

If Tomlin and Khan don't attend his pro day, then you can probably forget about him being the pick at #17.

    Might as well.

Neither Tomlin nor Kahn were spotted at South Carolina's Pro Day.

Sorry @S.T.D !!! 'Tis are the rules on how to predict who the Steelers will draft first. Been that way since Ziggy Hood back in 09.

I wasn't aware they already had their pro day, I guess Christain Gonzalez won't be the pick either then, they had a scout at his pro day though.

Hopefully that was just a Colbert thing, and Khan isn’t as inclined to be that rigid AND is more cautious about not telegraphing our intentions. If he ends up not getting one of the 30 invites as well, then yeah I’d write him off as the pick.
