Take Gonzalez after the trade up? Or stand pat at 17 and taken him?

If it's the latter, I'm not so sure NE wouldn't have just taken him at 14 if they didn't find a trade partner? He still would've been good value there. Washington gave them gave them a friggin gift.

Broderick Jones is either the second or third best Offensive Tackle in the class. Never mind that... outside of Anthony Richardson, no other player in the draft has a higher ceiling than Broderick Jones. His athletic traits and controlled rage as an Offensive Tackle also cannot be faulted either.

He does need some coaching up but he is well worth his Top 15 Selection. My comparison for him was Christian Darrisaw from Virgina Tech circa the 2021 Draft. Likw Jones, Darrisaw was raw coming out but tremendously talented and possessed an immeasurable ceiling. Another popular comp would be Andrew Thomas; another Offensive Tackle from Georgia (though this is debatable imo).

    Overall, an A selection.

Further more, being the 3rd or 4th best tackle doesnt mean you are bad, there were only 4 difference makers at the position and he was one of them.

    Excellent pick.

I meant take Gonzalez after trading up. I am absolutely certain the Patriots would have taken him at 14 if they hadn't traded the pick. As soon as Gonzalez made it past the top 10, I was posting here about wanting the Steelers to trade up to get him, though I had the feeling that if they did move up, it would be for Jones.

I'm betting the Patriots were very sure that the Steelers and Commanders were both going to pass on Gonzalez.

I'm not saying I agree with their choice. Or their choices the last 3 years. But Bijan is close to a generational talent. And Patterson is not.

They probably should have taken Jalen Carter. Agreed. But Bijan is quite a stud.

Happy they didn't take Gonzalez. I really didn't want them trading up, but if they did, it was good it was for a Tackle. As that was the position of scarcity. Trading up for a corner would have been a weak move. There are lots of good corners as was obvious by Washington passing on Gonzalez for Forbes.

I think he is better than Johnson. Part of my concern about the Steelers trading up to get a tackle was the rumors that they really wanted Johnson. I just wasn't impressed with what I've seen of him in pass protection.

I really like Wright, who may be the better overall player. I just think Jones is going to be better protecting Pickett's blind side, which is what this team needs most.

I just don't think Skoronski is going to stick at left tackle. I think he will end up at guard or right tackle.

Jones may not be better than all of those guys, but he is the better fit now and has the bigger upside.

That is just the Commanders reminding us all that even with Snyder on the way out, they are stupid.

I bwg to differ. If you watch the tape the corners came of the board In the right order.

Winterspoon then Forbes. Many might fall in love with Gonzalez"s smoothness and project greatness therefrom. But the tape showed Winterspoon and Forbes were better on film.

Tape is just part of the equation. Forbes is 166 pounds. He is way too skinny to play the more physical game in the NFL.

Yet he was physical in college. And supported the run well. Funny enough, he was far more physical than Gonzalez. Who generally does everything in 'cool' mode.

Also, I'm sure a pro workout plan will have Forbes weight up to around 180 in a year and a half tops.

I can't believe we got Jones, Against SEC defenses. He was the stud on the OL as Carter was on the DL. LT for two National Championships.

    https://www.nfldraftbuzz.com/Player/Broderick-Jones-OL-Georgia

Broderick Jones is probably the best athlete in the entire offensive line class, he's very strong, has elite core strength, cat-like quickness, and has the speed of a tight end
    • In 2020 as a freshman Jones saw action in just 2 games and played a total of 25 snaps for the Bulldogs.
    • As a sophomore in 2021 he played in 11 games and a total of 434 snaps. He conceded 5 QB hurries, one QB hit, and 2 sacks while playing most of his snaps at left tackle.
    • In 2022 as a junior Jones saw action in 13 games and totaled 805 snaps. He gave up 8 QB hurries, just one QB hit and allowed no sacks while playing at left tackle.

And they already had Tyler Allgeier, a 2022 5th round pick rush for 1000+yards. It makes no sense. Are they taking the carries from Allgeier as a reward for breaking a 1000. Crazy organization. And he was not getting much QB help to stop teams from playing against run.

To add what they are saying in Washington.
He's bulked up to 180 pounds, he's comparable to Darrell Green now.

    Me thinks not.

This was my initial reaction too. I assumed we had just lost either 32 or 49 for a guy with great upside who probably doesn’t help us this year.

I was pleased once I learned it was only a 4th. The kid’s talent is undeniable.

The fact that we could come away with both Jones AND Porter is amazing because I would have been pumped with Porter at 17.

The Eagles have the most talented roster in the NFL but you never know what can happen in the playoffs. Hurts played nearly perfect in the Superbowl but he had one fumble that was returned for a TD and that was the difference in the game.

I know right? Is it safe to assume that since we played them last year we won’t have to see them for the next four years? I don’t know how the scheduling works now that they added a 17th game.

    And Smith, don't forget.

    Yes, it is ridiculous.

Reminds me of the Pats, during they're heyday, they made it to the SB almost every year but somehow always has 2 or 3 first rd picks! WTF?! It was maddening. :lolol:

The 'boys taking Mazi Smith was funny, he has the talent and definitely could have been taken there or even a bit higher, but it looked like their FO expected the TE to be there and they had no follow up. Maybe there is more to it, but it looked like a disorganized mess on TV.

It was really odd, especially because Mayer seemed like such a natural fit for them.

If we would have moved up and grabbed Gonzalez I would have smiled, hard choice but no loser with either pick, but just the satisfaction of getting the CB the Pats wanted, then seeing the Jets get the T the Pats wanted to screw them out of..well some things are just satisfying, lol

Please don't put that on the fact that Washington picked Him. You do know Washington's record at 1st round picks???
