Munchak would be a good hire and bring some stability to the position, instead of changing O-line coaches every year.

Thats my one problem with Munchak, I don't think it would be long before he was hired away as a HC again.

I agree. He is well regarded in the league, and I think it's just a matter of time before he gets a bigger gig than an O-line coaching spot. However, I still want him, and if we get him I will cross my fingers and hope we can retain him for at least 2 seasons. I think he has as good a chance as anyone to get Adams to reach his potential (which I still think is high as a RT).

That would put 4 guys with head coaching experience on our coaching staff has that ever happened before.

If he stayed one year, we would still be a better team.

Yeah I don't mind renting a good o-line coach. Maybe he will get them headed in the right direction or at least help us in the draft. I wonder how Velasco feels about him?

Munchak gets paid his full coaching salary from the titans next year since he had 1 year remaining on his contract: So, why would he want to take an oline coaching job when he can collect a few million while he takes a 1 year vacation? He would be working for free because whatever he would earn from the steelers would be deducted from the 1 year salary the titans will pay him.....

Yes, essentially. The Titans are only on the hook for 3 million if he doesn't take another job this year. If he does, they are only on the hook for that amount minus the salary the other team will pay him. It's offset language that's unusual, but in his contract with Tennessee.

I can think of different reasons. He feels like he's going to get paid one way or another, and he knows that in this league, not getting right back on a team (preferably a successful one) can be a setback towards your aspirations of becoming a desired coach again.

I could see a case for him wanting to be in PA because he has roots here, and is a PSU guy, and there coincidentally is an opening here. Same with Houston...the job is open now and he's unemployed. Houston seems like the most obvious place for him, but who knows what the situation is there.

Not saying I wouldn't hire him because of it, just that it is a negative, if he leaves after 1 year, we get a new coach installing his system. Big part of the problem with our line is musical coaches and players.

I think we ought to make him the highest paid OL coach in the league, paying him close to head coach money, and put a buyout clause in his contract to discourage another team coming from after him for at least 3 years. He could stabilize our decade long offensive line issues as well as anybody I can think of and would be worth a healthy investment. Maybe even make him the HC in waiting if the offensive line turns the corner.

Actually the salary offset language is pretty much standard in all head coaches contracts, the cards saved a million bucks with their off set clause when Whisenhunt took the OC job with the bolts....

You're right. It's unusual if it's not in there. I had it backwards, my bad. In my defense I've been sick as a dog.

Whiz' new contract with the Titans does not have it.
