He's been there 8 years...I don't think the Steelers just hand him a check...He has to do something of value

Munch left to be closer to his family. Wasn't anything other than that I believe his family lives in the Denver area.

He is not going to be happy when the Chiefs beat his Pats this weekend.

That's the official spin on it, I'm sure there are other reasons. Again he's going to work for a guy who beat him for a job.

This is a great read thanks, here is one part that stuck out to me:

Many pontificated that Munchak wouldn't want to be a head coach after getting fired in Tennessee. It sure seemed that way when he decided to turn down a second interview for the Arizona coaching job last offseason. Back then, the Scranton native also pointed to "family reasons" as to why he didn't want to leave Pittsburgh.

So then it was family reasons to stay here now it is family reasons to leave here.........hmm. I feel Munch is a class act and the "family reason" excuse is a way to leave without throwing anyone under the bus, IMO. This is a sad sad sad day for us all as this guy couldn't even get a promotion to OC never mind HC. He seen the writing on the wall, I have never heard of a guy taking a job on the staff of the guy that beat him out for the job...........not buying the Family Reason excuse. Good luck Munch you will be missed

While I want to believe that, I think that was just icing on the cake. You don't have to look too hard to see that this plane is having engine trouble (just look at the smoke pouring out of the back of them).

A Football Life: 1995 Cleveland Browns.

Definitely worth watching. If Model hadn't moved the team, they would have been a force. Maybe not what NE is today because a big part of that is Brady but they were headed in the right direction until they left for Baltimore.

Kinda like how Bruce Arians "retired." Art Rooney appears to be spineless in this regard.

He supposedly skipped his 2nd interview with the Cards last year so that he could stay in Pittsburgh and be close to family. So which is it?

He should just retire if he really wants to spend time with his family.

To be fair, Munch hasn't said he left for family. Thats the Steelers or media spin.

Took me a second to figure out what you meant. I was like, yeah, I just said he didn't say it :lolol:

There's obviously a lot of behind the scenes stuff going on. My only silver lining in him leaving is it wasn't for a HC job and he'll be removed from the drama for a year. He'll be a prime candidate to bring back in for a HC interview after Tomlin falls on his face again. From what I am reading, Munch is revered by the players the way DL was.

Sorry to make you decipher.....Do you think they would consider bringing Munchak back? Also I haven't fact checked it myself but I heard Tomlin is in his final contract year. That seems to be a lame duck situation that shouldn't be overlooked. Curious to know if you feel it's telling and if you believe if we don't go on a deep run next year Tomlin actually gets fired?

I'm inclined to believe that Art won't change his family's philosophy and Tomlin stays as long as he wants.

Both the Trib and the Post Gazette limit the number of free articles you can read on a mobile device before signing up for the paper. I have reached the limit on my phone and have to wait until I get home and use a desktop computer.
