JT O'Sullivan with this weeks breakdown.

    Disclaimer:
JT has a career passer rating of 69.9 with a 9TD to 13INT ratio and 56% completion percentage so when it comes down to it, WTF does he really know.

Im sure there are plenty of people posting here who've been on a good high school team or even a good college team and watched film who could provide a better analysis, but it's always good to get some input from someone who's played at the highest level even if he was a scrub.

There can be a difference between being able to do it in real time and understanding the theory behind it. The two aren't mutually exclusive. There's probably many scouts out there that can't play the game, but they understand the X's and O's and know who is good and who isn't. It's still just one mans opinion, but if he was a pro QB, his opinion should carry more weight than someone who wasn't.

I know. I was being sarcastic (see last week's thread) but didn't want to add the green font. I'll fix it.

All good. I just watched the video. Nothing ground breaking in it. Lots of good things, still some growing pains. Mostly positive stuff though, which is a good sign.

Yeah my take away too. That's why I love JT. He points out the good and the bad, explains WHY it was good or bad, and illustrates how it could be corrected. He explains concepts and coverages very well too. You can learn a lot from him. Highly underrated YT channel.

What has changed is if you watch his previous videos, he always harping on the play design and the concepts that were being run. Motion just for motion sake, hank concept over-and-over, etc.

This one he's got some praise for the motion and play designs. The read sequence and anticipation throws. This is a huge change. Can they keep it up? We will find out.

The very first pass of the game and to Meuth was the best pass I’ve seen all season. Kinda told me all I needed.

Yep. That means that Faulkner and Sullivan did a great job selecting plays within Canada's playbook that are more schematically correct and creative. They may have tweaked a couple things, but it's hard to know. They utilized parts of the field that Canada never did because he was putting limitations on his quarterback and not allowing him to take more risks.

This is still Canada's offense, but Canada didn't even know how to utilize his own offense in game situations. He got in his own way and he got in the quarterback's way. He never figured out how to get the ball to his best players. Many of his plays and route combinations didn't make sense because they weren't complimentary to the other routes to create separation. The lack of detail in the offense was pretty obvious.

So they are still doing much of what they did before, but the new coaches are getting the offense in better plays and in better situations. This is only the first week. There is only so much they can tweak Canada's plays or introduce new plays each week. We have to hope that they keep coming up with good game plans and continue to let Pickett open up the offense. We also have to see if Kenny can continue to make plays and still protect the ball.

I wonder if they also asked “hey Kenny, what are you most comfortable with?”

One of the things that got me is that if you see this discontent coming from O-linemen in-particular, it had to have been being discussed in the position group rooms. With that recent reporting (correct or not) that Canada didn't involve the position coaches in the gameplan, you kind of see how this situation played out.

I mean last year when they looked like he was making strides, we were getting reports of Kenny being in the room with the coaches developing the gameplan. Even had him say a few of the plays were based off what he saw in his own film study. Fast forward to this year and there's none of it? Mind Boggling!

Of course. Most good OC's value input from their quarterbacks. They work with them to try to put them in positions where they are comfortable and confident. It makes perfect sense to do it and encourage it. Only a fool wouldn't ask what schemes fit his eye and help him see the field.

During the Cleveland game, Canada was on the bench with Kenny and Canada was looking at his Ipad and giving Kenny instructions and kenny was looking out into the distance and said "yeah". Kenny says all the right things but I bet he feels like a new man.
