Chris Gamble and Aaron Ross were released today. Not sure how this will affect Lewis in FA, but you have to figure the more options out there, the better.

It makes me upset that we signed Gay. I liked the signing initially but now I'm starting to change my mind. Just look at who's available...

    Aqib Talib
    Keenan Lewis
    Chris Gamble
    Sean Smith
    Domonique Rodger Cromartie
    Leodis McKelvin
    Derek Cox
    Chris Houston
    Cary Williams
    Brent Grimes
    Dunta Robinson
    Captain Munnerlyn
    Pacman Jones

Throw in Derelle Revis and Nnamdi (who's likely to get cut)... and this is a very deep FA class of CB's. Obviously we're not going after a guy like Revis or Talib but they fill needs of CBs for other teams pushing the demand down.

Captain Munnerlyn is still one of my favourite player names in the current NFL.

I'm not sure what price some of these guys command (someone like Gamble, for example, would I guess be a bit more pricey) but surely a better pick up than Gay without utterly breaking the bank?

Or would they also have to sit on the bench for 3 years learning our MENSA-membership-required defensive scheme?

While I think we overpaid a bit for Gay's services, I like getting a guy who knows the system and was getting better in it. I think people underrate his value as a #4 corner and special teamer (many of those guys haven't played ST in a while) because he was weak as a starter during his time here. I admit - I do like Cary Williams. I thought he got better and better as the season went on. However, I see him being quite a bit more expensive than Gay. Of the rest of that bunch, I really don't see any who wouldn't either be: 1) more expensive than Gay; 2) have their own question marks (including potential scheme switches); or 3) both of the above. With respect to my point on scheme switching, look at Nmamdi as an example. The guy was all-world as a press man corner. The Eagles brought him in and used him in a zone scheme, and some hybrids thereof, and - poof - the guys goes from all-world to mediocre.

What happened to Sean Smith, at one point he was one of the promising young CB's in this league...I don't follow the dolphins, so i'm not sure what happened there?

I hope the Steelers DO NOT OVERPAY FOR Lewis's services.
