Money, salaries, free agents, busts, and players over 30

7 Players:

Ben - 21.8 million a year
Heyward - 10 million a year
DeCastro - 10 million a year
Timmons - 9.5 million a year
Pouncey - 8.8 million a year
Brown - 8.4 million a year
Gilbert - 6.1 million a year

total yearly salaries equal over 70 million a year. Those 7 players cost 70 million a year.

Ben and AB I can go along with. The rest are overpaid.

Heyward is worth 6, DeCastro 6, Timmons 6, Pouncey 5, Gilbert 5.
That would save almost 17 million a year.

Next year we have a ton of Free Agents, and I'd like to see 7 or 8 re-signed.

Villanueva - currently makes 480K
Cockrell - 600K
Shamarko - 650K
Wheaton - 700K
Bell - 1.0
Wallace - 1.1
DeAngelo - 2.0
Jarvis Jones - 2.0

Villanueva is worth 3, Cockrell 5, Shamarko 1, Wheaton 1, Bell 8, Wallace 3, DeAngelo 2, Jarvis 2.
That would cost me an additional 17 million.
For what the steelers are overpaying right now, you could sign those FA's.

There are several other FA's, but with the extra cap money there would be no problem signing which ones you want.

When AB's contract comes up, I would draw the line at 60 million over 5 years.

* Note - the JJ signing would be for 1 year, because if he doesn't start to make plays, he will be out the door. DeAngelo would be for 1 year too. Shamarko would get 1 year too. Wheaton would get 2 years. Wallace, Bell, Villanueva and Cockrell would get 5 years.

Call the Steelers and tell em to fire Colbert and hire me!

 

What we think they're worth and what they will get are 2 entirely different things. I think they are all overpaid but they don't ask me.

You do realize these players have earned what they are being paid considering their talent level in addition to the market value of their positions being well within their current contracts right?

So now that we have that 17 mill...where you going to spend it? You going to throw it at some high priced FA....wait...cant do that...as I am sure we would be over paying...and thats a no no under the new regime...so where is all that 17 mill going? 8mill for Bell might work...that would put him at #3 behind Peterson and Shady McCoy.....after he goes for maybe 2000 all purpose...I bet he wants at least 10....so we better start looking for a different back ...could throw D Will a bone and add a little cash to his bank..and sign Danny Woodhead...he is a FA next year.

You could be right.....but I watched this show once before...maybe you are to young to remember...but I watched Pitts best players leave year after year....as the FO simply did not have the ability or the want to to spend ther extra $$$ and Cowher did an amazing job plugging in another guy and keeping the ship pointed North...but he fielded players who competed in the playoffs....I would rather pay the going rate and field players are are a threat to win championships.

Your assessment is probably correct. But, yikes that's a little rough.

 

Bell has come back and with just a couple of games....has proved his worth. He won't go for low ballin'.
And I agree, we lost championship caliber players and coaches in the 90's and early 2k's

 

It's just a shame all of life isn't like Madden.

 

5yr/60mil for AB? I'm sure he will love getting Manny sanders money lol

Bell and AB will cost us about 25 mil a year total and they are worth every penny of it. We'd be crazy not to pay them
