I'd be fine with Williams on a short term deal. Lots of verticality between him and Pickens... He's definitely the best remaining WR on the market. We're going back to the draft for another WR too. Looking a lot like Pickens/FA/Draft Pick/Austin/Jefferson as the WR room. Not too bad if the FA is a Williams or Boyd type (I value Williams higher than Boyd at the moment, but either are fine depending on the term/price).

that year the CAP $$ shrank, this year it exploded. At the end of the season it was alluded by Cam he would not take a pay cut.

Coming into 2021, Ben had been paid just over $250M by the Steelers. $5M was 2% of that.

Comparatively, Cam has taken home $115M coming into this year. So taking the same cut equates to $2.3M.

Converting, say, $12M of Cam's salary this year to signing bonus and adding three void years isn't going to "screw" the Steelers next year. If he retires they take on at most $9M in dead money, but could halve it over two years if they wish. And the extension would save $9M against 2024's cap.

There seems to be some internal turmoil regarding Tyler Boyd. Maybe some of his critical comments of the Steelers "culture" this past season has something to do with it. Seems like a natural fit, but maybe enough people internally took offense to those comments (since, essentially that would be insulting the coaching staff/front office when bringing up team culture) to cause an internal split on bringing him in.

Aiyuk or Boyd would be a better fit...but I'd be OK with Williams.

I'm sure Pickens is very happy with acquisition of Russell Wilson.

I don't think Pickens liked Trubisky and Pickett very much.

Yeah, that's what I saw as its max value. Haven't seen the details, but with the way it was worded it sounds like there are incentives built in - for him, I would guess a per game roster bonus might've been one.

It's not a bad AAV, but a one-year deal also means it hits their cap fully this year. The Steelers would've likely had to sign him to a multi-year contract so they could soften 2024 a bit.

Quite pleased Williams has taken his ACL injury elsewhere.

The Jets overpaid for him, I doubt the Steelers would've come close to offering him 15 million for one year.

He was someone I thought we could get dirt cheap on a one year prove it deal after his injury. $15 million? Nope. Rather $25 for Aiyuk or $30 for jefferson.
