I'm not holding it against him but I felt he could have still caught that. I don't hate Wallace (although I did say I officially hate him during the game day thread, emotions :lolol: ) but I haven't been happy with him the last couple games and missing camp is going to bring a whole lot of hate on this guy when he plays like crap, he brought this on himself. If he turns it around and plays more like he did the first 3 games then like he has the last 2, I'll obviously forgive him but right now he's losing points with me fast.[/quote:22dw0123]
LOL! I also said I hate him as well! Great minds think alike!(when they are VERY angry)! LOL.[/quote:22dw0123]

I also declared my hatred for him in my many texts to my sisters.....I am hoping this will be a wake up call for him

I know what you mean. I think he DEFINITELY comes on here and reads our posts so it works good for us to call him out because he will come and read this stuff and be motivated. LOL. I bet when he sees the texts you wrote to your sisters he will get his act together.

HugeSnatch: First of all, I wasn't talking about Mendenhall or Brown, so for you to bring either of them up is a red herring and example of a fallacious argument.

Second, and more importantly, Wallace was targeted 15 times last night. So to have 8 catches (and a whopping 52 yards...) means he didn't catch it 7 other times. That equals a success rate of 53%. At least 5 of those incomplete passes hit Wallace in the hands. The "catch" that Mike needed the ground to help him make in the 4th quarter was a gift and you know it. I'll take it though, and it is nice for the bounces to go our way occassionally, but the only reason that ball was called a catch on the field is because the official was out of position and didn't see it hit the ground from his angle. The officials could have overturned the call on the field on the challenge and they would have been right in doing so. That was a bounce (literally) that didn't go the bungholes way and I'm happy about it, but had it not, there isn't a leg to stand on that it was a catch. It shouldn't have even come to that in the first place because that ball should have been easily caught with his hands instead of letting it come into his body. A #1 WR makes that catch without any doubt and drama.

That is one of the main knocks on Wallace. That he doesn't catch the ball with his hands but he tries to let the ball come into his body. The other knocks we have talked about ad nauseum around here and Wallace did nothing to change anyone's opinion last night. In fact, he reaffirmed what we already know about Mike - that he is fast, his hands are not the best, his routes are not crisp. Other than Mike's speed, there is nothing crisp about the way he plays. He is slow to turn his head and body, and his arms seem to be slow getting up. So, last night reinforced the fact that he IS a one-trick pony.

But, since you want to compare Wallace to other players, let's take a look at a couple other guys who caught passes last night. AB targeted 8 times and caught 7 balls (the one he missed, he actually caught OB because Ben threw the ball OB) - success rate = 88%. Heath was targeted 9 times and had 7 catches counting the 2-point conversion (one of the misses was an INT that was an ill-advised pass into double coverage that is on Ben) - success rate = 78%. Ben threw 10 incompletions and 7 of them were to Mike Wallace. 7 other guys caught passes and only contributed 3 incompletions. 8 of 15 complete to Wallace and 19 of 22 complete to the rest of the team. So was it Ben's fault? I don't think so. These numbers may not be exact, I just browsed through the play-by-play. But I think you get the point.

I never said I hated Mike Wallace, so I don't know why you think I want him gone. Some of the stuff you cook up in your mind is really whack. On the contrary, I'm glad we have him to stretch the field and give us that option. It makes guys like Heath, AB, and Sanders more dangerous. But to paint the picture in any way, shape or fashion that Mike Wallace is an elite WR is just ludicrous. In fact, Mike Wallace isn't even a true #1 WR on this team. And I believe that given more opportunity that Sanders good make the lock on the #2 WR spot. AB is clearly the #1. Wallace is a situational #3 WR who is really fast. That is what he brings to this team and that is great. But to call him anything else is misinformed and not accurate. He is making what he is worth at the moment and to pay him even $5M a year would be a mistake, let alone $10M plus he thinks he deserves. This season is Mike's big opportunity to prove all of the naysayers wrong and so far, he is not making the statement that he is a top 5 or even top 10 WR in the NFL, like he believes he is in his own fantasy mind. And yes, everyone has a bad game occassionally and maybe I'm being a little harsh on Mike. But he isn't the WR he thinks he is and not worth what he thinks he is worth. Thus my original statement that he is who we thought he was.

Alright, well my post was about the whole season so far, including last night, and yours was about last night, so...

Obviously the "times targeted to receptions" stat is very flawed. I mean, that counts passes thrown out of bounds, in the dirt, straight to the defender... I think the larger the sample is, the more meaning it has, but you can't necessarily put a lot of stock in it then, either. So you just put out some stats that said Mike didn't play well last night. Um, I know. And at least three of those missed targets were 100% Mike's fault, because they were drops. Another was tipped, and I don't recall any others right now, so I can't say if they were bad passes or not, I just know they weren't drops. But if you'll look above, I pointed out that on the season, Mike has caught a higher percentage of the targets his way than Antonio, even including last night's stat-busting performance. At this point I'd like to take that back  because apparently right after the game, when I pulled those stats, the Bengals game had already been included in the game log, but not in the final total on the bottom (I trusted NFL.com to add for me, and they didn't). That's changed now. Ironically, prior to the Cincy game, Mike was completing 62% of his targets, and AB 59%. Now Mike is at 59% and AB is at 62%. So if either of us is going to put anything into that stat (you don't have to, I'm not really going to), then I guess we should consider the 5 game total in addition to the 1 horrible game. **Note, another stat is wrong, too. I said Mike still has more yards than AB (which he did prior to the Bengals game), but that has been updated and AB has more now. The stats that didn't change: Mike's average is still higher and he has 4 TDs to Brown's 1.

Okay, so NFL.com and I messed up and now AB has the edge on 2 of the 4 stats I quoted. But that doesn't change the fact that this time yesterday Mike had them all, and that was after 5 games. Everyone here seems to be making the case that what we saw last night was the real Mike. You just said he's nothing but a situational 3rd receiver. Then what gives with the other games? Why is he on pace for over 1,000 yards and 11 touchdowns? Why has he been as productive as he's been so far in his career? Are all his good games flukes? Does he play like this too often? He had FOUR drops last year, so I'm not sure you can say he's a chronic dropper. Throw out this game and all you've got left is your personal scouting report saying he can't do anything but run fast in a straight line, and I don't think that's backed up by much, either tape or numbers.

First of all, I almost missed that insult the first time. Good one. Second of all, I'll try to refrain from saying other people's names...? :hmmm:  I thought I made a pretty good argument, but I guess it was false and I was really just trying to distract you. You caught me.

his drops were big last night but what troubles me more is our wr group as a whole. 5 TD's in 6 games. walace has 4 of those, brown has 1. whomever was talking about 55 million dollars and wallace is dead wrong and should look at it like the 2.74 mill he makes this year with 4 TD's and the 42 million brown is making with 1. i love antonio and our receiving corp, but that is less then 1 TD per game out of arguably the best group in the game they have been called. if we are going to invest all this money towards this group they better pick up the scoring. that's what wins games not yards. i'd take 11 heath millers at every position if it was me. there's the 100 million dollar man.
