For most of these guys - playing for the Steelers was like lightning in a bottle - you can pretty much name on one and a half hands former Steelers who went on to have equal or better careers after leaving - Hardy Nickerson, Mike Vrabel, Chad Brown, Rod Woodson, Alan Faneca, John Kuhn, Johnny Unitas. .......?????? And Honorable mention to Bubby Brister and Plexiglass for earning SB rings after departure - OK Plexi had a good SB TD catch.

I'd say Nate Washington has been pretty solid but not anything we couldn't live without. I've always thought along the same lines that we know when to hold 'em and when to fold 'em better than most if not all franchises in the league. I'd say Kevin Green and Rod Woodson are the two best we ever let go. In the modern era anyway. Johnny Unitas is probably the best overall. I suppose our greatest "miss" is Marino but I never really liked him anyway. I'm sure I could have learned to if he had helped us win a few more trophies though. LOL!

Forgot about K Greene - but he's a bit different in that we didn't draft and develop him but got him when he was already awesome (like the Bus). That sets up another key list - those who we acquired who flourished or continued to flourish in the Steeler's system - Kevin Greene, the Bus, James Farrier ........? I will ignore the growing list of those we let go who fizzled out at Steeler's West and came back again.

As far as "Dante" (I lost 22 lbs) Marino - he had such a sub-par Senior year at Pitt (National Title hopes) that he fell off of everyone's radar except of course Shula's. It's amazing how many people argue with me about how Tony Dorsett and Marino were such a great tandem for that 1976 Pitt Nat Champ team (when Danny was only 15). He didn't show up till '79 at Pitt. (Pitt's Nat Champ QB was Matt Cavanaugh)

That's hilarious that people argue with you about that. I've heard that Miami started news stories making Dan out to be a coke head in order to drop his stock so they could get him. I don't know if that's true or not though.

Poor Mike. He must have lost focus because they were paying more attention to another player.
