Mike Wallace haters?

I honestly wonder if this thought has ever went through AB's head..."Whew... I'm glad I got my money beFORE I cost this team two games..."? However I think the Wallace fumble cost us the Rats game. Also there have been SO many drops by him as well. But in spite of AB's undisciplined stupidity with the football I still think he's an ALL AROUND better wr than Wallace. Wallace admittedly is a true threat at only one thing. But I think AB is fundamentally better than Wallace. But today you SURE wouldn't have known it!

 

One of the first things a receiver learns is to go for the ball. Who remembers "catch the ball at its highest point" or "come back to the ball so the DB can't get to it"? Wallace rarely does that. Early in the game the DB made a great play to bat a long pass away from an open Wallace. Wallace was running straight and waiting for the ball to come to him. He should have altered his route inside a little bit and he would have caught the ball cleanly and had nothing but daylight in front of him. He did the same thing later on in the game on an out pattern that he floated on the route. Yeah, that last pass was bad and behind him (Ben's fault), but if he actually stopped and tried to make a play on the ball it would have most likely gone incomplete.

The only reason our receivers are good is that they know how to get open after the play breaks down so Ben can throw it to them when he is in trouble. Other than the bubble screens and occasional quick slant, how often do our receivers (other than Heath) actually get open while running solid routes? BTW...running out-routes against "prevent" coverages doesn't count because they are giving us those.
